Respiratory Route
It is important to know that measles spreads through the respiratory route from an infected person. Viruses are released from the respiratory tract of the infected person which is then transferred through the environment, leading to the infection of the respiratory tract of the exposed person. When people affected with measles cough or sneeze, the respiratory droplets from the infected person enter the environment. It can remain in the air for several hours and the virus remains infectious on contaminated surfaces for up to two hours.

2–3 days after exposure the virus spreads into the blood from the initial site of infection.
And after 5–7 days, the infected blood comes in contact with organs where the virus replicates and enters the bloodstream stream again.

Get Vaccinated And Protect Against Measles
Measles can be prevented by getting vaccinated with the MMR (Measles Mumps Rubella) vaccine. This vaccine protects against three diseases which includes measles, mumps and rubella. It is highly recommended in children to get two doses of MMR vaccines, starting from the first dose at 12 to 15 months of age. Second dose of vaccination can be given around 4 to 6 years of age.
