ALDOPAM 500MG INJECTION

Introduction:

Aldopam 500mg Injection is used to treat organophosphate anticholinesterase poisoning. It is not effective against carbamate anticholinesterase poisoning. Anticholinesterases are readily available and widely used as an insecticide for agricultural and household purposes. In case of poisoning with these anticholinesterases, treatment should be started as early as possible (within few hours). The onset, severity and duration of poisoning depend on the route of exposure and agent involved. In patients requiring atropine, Aldopam 500mg Injection is injected as an adjunct and when administered immediately after exposure, it can reverse or prevent muscle weakness, convulsions or coma.

Uses of Aldopam 500mg Injection:

• Antidote for early-stage cholinesterase inhibitor poisoning
• To control overdosage by anticholinesterase drugs used in the treatment of myasthenia gravis

How Aldopam 500mg Injection works:

Aldopam 500mg Injection has a very high affinity for phosphorus atoms but does not enter central nervous system. When given early enough, it may restore the cholinesterase activity and is active at both muscarinic and nicotinic sites. It regenerates the active Acetylcholine esterase enzyme and relieves skeletal muscle block. It can reverse or prevent muscle weakness, convulsions or coma.

How to use Aldopam 500mg Injection: 

Use as directed by the physician. Discard unused solution after dosing is withdrawn.

Safety Advice:

Pregnancy:

Your physician will prescribe Aldopam 500mg Injection during pregnancy only if it is clearly needed.

Breastfeeding: 

It is unknown if Aldopam 500mg Injection is excreted in milk. Consult your physician for advice.

Kidney:

Inform your physician before starting this treatment if you have kidney diseases. Your physician will prescribe the dose according to your condition.

Allergies: 

Inform your physician if you experience allergic reactions to Aldopam 500mg Injection or its ingredients.

Others:

• Caution must be exercised if this injection is used for patients with myasthenia gravis.

Side effects are unwanted symptoms caused by medicines. Even though all drugs cause side effects, not everyone gets them.

Common:

• High BP
• Pain at the site of injection
• Blurred vision
• Drowsiness
• Nausea
• Increased heart rate
• Headache
• Elevated liver enzymes
• Muscle weakness
