Introduction to Adcov 50mg Injection

Adcov 50mg Injection is an anticancer drug belonging to the class of detoxifying agents, containing the active ingredient Calcium Leucovorin/Calcium Folinate. It is used in the treatment of megaloblastic anaemia (the presence of large, immature, and dysfunctional red blood cells (megaloblasts) in the bone marrow). It is also used to enhance the effectiveness of 5-fluorouracil in the treatment of certain cancers, by increasing the efficacy of the drug while reducing its toxicity. This drug can also be used in the treatment of overdosage of folic acid antagonists. Additionally it also helps to protect healthy cells by "rescuing" them from the toxic effects of the chemotherapy drug.

This drug is contraindicated in patients who have hypersensitivity reactions. This medicine may cause allergic reactions in some people. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include itching, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, and a rapid heartbeat. If you experience any of these symptoms, consult your doctor immediately. Excessive Adcov 50mg Injection doses must be avoided since this might impair the antitumor activity of methotrexate, especially in CNS tumours where calcium folinate accumulates after repeated courses.

There are no indications that folic acid induces harmful effects if administered during pregnancy and it is not known whether this drug can cause foetal harm, when administered to pregnant women. This drug should be used during pregnancy only when clearly needed. This medicine can be used during breastfeeding when considered necessary according to the therapeutic indications. Tell your physician about all the medications you have been taking recently, including herbal medicines and supplements, before taking Adcov 50mg Injection.

Uses of Adcov 50mg Injection

  • Treatment of Megaloblastic Anaemia
  • Reduce the toxicity of methotrexate
  • Overdose of Folic Acid Antagonists

Therapeutic Effects of Adcov 50mg Injection

Adcov 50mg Injection works by enhancing the effects of folic acid in the body. It is taken up by cells through a specific transporter protein and converted into the active form of folic acid, which can be used by cells to produce DNA and form new cells. This drug is given after methotrexate to help rescue normal cells that require folate for their growth.

Inform your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, nutritional or vitamin supplements, and herbal products. Certain medications may interact with Adcov 50mg Injection and reduce effectiveness by causing undesirable side effects.
