Introduction to Imax FCM Injection
Imax FCM Injection contains the active substance Ferric carboxymaltose. It belongs to the group of medications called iron replacement products. It is used to treat iron-deficiency anaemia (decreased RBC due to lower levels of iron in the body) in adults and pediatric patients who cannot tolerate oral iron or when oral iron supplements are ineffective.
It is also indicated to treat iron deficiency anemia in adults with chronic kidney disease who are not on dialysis. This medicine is not recommended for pediatric patients less than one year of age.
Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to Imax FCM Injection or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. Do not receive Imax FCM Injection if you have anaemia that is not caused by iron deficiency, an iron overload (too much iron in the body), or difficulties in using an iron.
Inform your physician if you have rheumatoid arthritis, severe asthma, eczema, infection, liver disorders, or low phosphate levels in the blood. Incorrect administration of this injection may cause irritation and long-lasting discoloration at the administration site.
Inform your physician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before initiating the treatment with Imax FCM Injection.
The most common side effects are nausea, hypertension, flushing, injection site reactions, skin reactions, vomiting, and dizziness. Tell your physician if you have experienced serious allergic (hypersensitive) reactions to other injectable iron preparations.
Uses of Imax FCM Injection
The uses of Imax FCM Injection are:
- Iron deficiency anaemia in adult and pediatric patients
- Treat iron deficiency anaemia in adults with chronic kidney failure
Therapeutic Effects of Imax FCM Injection
Imax FCM Injection releases iron via a carbohydrate polymer complexed with colloidal iron (III) hydroxide. This works by replenishing iron stores so that the body can make more red blood cells.
Interaction of Imax FCM Injection with other drugs
Inform your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take or have taken before, including prescription, over-the-counter, nutritional or vitamin supplements, and herbal products. Certain medications interact with Imax FCM Injection and reduce their effectiveness by causing undesirable side effects.

How to consume Imax FCM Injection
Imax FCM Injection is an intravenously administered prescription drug. This injection will be given to you in a hospital or clinic setting. Your doctor will decide the dose, duration, and frequency of the administration based on your condition and other factors. Your doctor may perform a blood test to determine how much medicine you need. You will be completely observed by your doctor or other healthcare professional while administering the medicine. Do not self-administer the medicine.

Breast Feeding
If you are a breastfeeding mother, consult your doctor before receiving Imax FCM Injection injection.
Alcohol
It is not known whether it is safe to drink alcohol while receiving Imax FCM Injection. Consult your doctor for more advice.
Liver
Imax FCM Injection should be cautiously administered in patients with liver problems. Dose adjustments are necessary if you have liver problems. Inform your physician if you have any liver disease before initiating the therapy.
Lungs
It is unknown whether Imax FCM Injection can be used in patients with lung disorders. Consult your doctor if you have any lung diseases before starting the treatment.
Driving
Imax FCM Injection does not alter your ability to drive and operate heavy machinery. If you feel dizzy, consult the doctor before driving or using machines.
Pregnancy
There is limited data available for the use of Imax FCM Injection during pregnancy. Inform your physician if you are pregnant, suspecting pregnancy, or planning to get pregnant during the treatment.
Side Effects of Imax FCM Injection
Side effects are unwanted symptoms caused by medicines. Even though all drugs cause side effects, not everyone gets them.

Tell your doctor if you experience any of the following signs and symptoms that may indicate a serious allergic reaction (hypersensitivity reactions), such as rash, itching, difficulty breathing, wheezing, swelling of the lips or mouth, and chest pain.

The rare side effects of Imax FCM Injection, which affects 1 in 1000 people, are inflammation of the veins, anxiety, fainting, wheezing, flatulence, and rapid swelling of the face, mouth, tongue, or throat, which may cause difficulty in breathing, paleness, and skin discolouration at other areas of the body than the administration site.

Only limited information is available on the use of Imax FCM Injection during pregnancy because the risk of hypersensitivity reactions can have serious consequences on the fetus. You will be monitored for 30 minutes for signs of an allergic reaction after injecting Imax FCM Injection. Your healthcare provider will also monitor your blood pressure and phosphate levels during this treatment.
