Introduction

Kerendia 20mg Tablet is a medication containing an active component called Finerenone. It falls under the category of nonsteroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs). Its purpose is to address conditions associated with imbalanced levels of mineralocorticoid hormones, specifically aldosterone, within the body. Kerendia tablet substitutes include spironolactone and eplerenone, which are also mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists.

The primary usage of Kerendia 20 mg Tablet is for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. It aids in lowering the likelihood of kidney disease advancement and also mitigates the risk of cardiovascular incidents, such as heart failure, in these patients.

Kerendia 20mg Tablet should not be used in individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to the drug or its components. It can increase the potassium levels in the blood. It should be used cautiously or avoided in patients with hyperkalemia or those already taking medications that can increase potassium levels (such as potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements).

Chronic kidney disease medication can affect the balance of electrolytes in the body. Monitoring potassium, sodium, and other electrolyte levels may be necessary during treatment. Kerendia 20mg Tablet may affect blood glucose levels, especially in patients with diabetes. If a person is undergoing surgery, it is important to inform the healthcare team about using Kerendia 20mg Tablet, as it may need to be temporarily discontinued before the procedure. Kerendia 20mg price varies based on the retailer and the Place.

Uses

Kerendia 20mg tablet uses are:

  • Chronic kidney disease (CKD) with type 2 diabetes

How Kerendia 20mg Tablet Works

Kerendia 20mg Tablet is a selective nonsteroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist (MRA) that blocks the effects of aldosterone, a hormone involved in fluid balance and blood pressure regulation. Inhibiting mineralocorticoid receptors reduces sodium and water retention, prevents potassium excretion, and provides therapeutic benefits in chronic kidney disease, including slowing disease progression, reducing cardiovascular risk, and controlling blood pressure.

Interaction of Kerendia 20mg Tablet with other drugs

  • Strong CYP3A4 Inhibitors (Ketoconazole, Itraconazole, Clarithromycin) Severe
Do not consume Kerendia with these medicines. They can significantly increase finerenone levels, raising the risk of serious side effects such as high potassium.

  • Moderate CYP3A4 Inhibitors (Erythromycin, Diltiazem, Verapamil) Moderate
Use with caution. These medicines may increase finerenone blood levels and the risk of hyperkalemia.

  • Strong CYP3A4 Inducers (Rifampicin, Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, St John’s wort) Severe
Do not consume Kerendia with these medicines. They may reduce finerenone levels and decrease its effectiveness.

  • Potassium Supplements and Salt Substitutes Severe
Avoid concurrent use. This combination can increase potassium levels in the blood and cause serious heart rhythm problems.

  • Potassium Sparing Diuretics (Spironolactone, Eplerenone, Amiloride) Severe
Do not use together. The risk of dangerously high potassium levels is increased.

  • ACE Inhibitors and ARBs (Enalapril, Lisinopril, Losartan) Moderate
Use with caution. Potassium levels should be closely monitored during combined use.

  • NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Diclofenac) Moderate
Caution is advised. NSAIDs may worsen kidney function and increase the risk of high potassium when taken with Kerendia.

Storage Conditions

  • Store at controlled room temperature, between 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F).
  • Protect the medicine from light and excessive moisture.
  • Keep the medicine out of reach of children and pets
  • Take only a partial dose to compensate for a forgotten dose.

To use Kerendia 20mg Tablet, follow the prescribed dosage and instructions provided by your healthcare provider. Take the medications as directed, usually orally, with or without food. Do not skip Kerendia dosage or stop taking them without consulting your healthcare provider. Consult your healthcare provider or pharmacist for guidance if you have any questions or concerns.
