Lamistar 30 Tablet is FDA-approved for the following use:

• Treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and pediatric patients in combination with other antiretroviral agents.

This medicine works by blocking a special enzyme called reverse transcriptase, which the HIV virus needs to make copies of itself. When the virus can’t make more copies, it slows down its growth in the body. Over time, this helps lower the viral load and gives the immune system a chance to recover and work better.

Taking this medicine consistently as prescribed helps reduce the risk of HIV-related complications and may also reduce the chances of transmitting the virus to others. However, it is not a standalone treatment and must be taken with other HIV medicines.

Before starting Lamistar 30 Tablet, always inform your doctor about any other medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are taking. This is important because some drugs can interfere with how this medicine works or increase the risk of serious side effects.

Serious drug interactions include:

• Zidovudine: Taking Stavudine with Zidovudine is not recommended due to opposing actions.
• Didanosine: May increase the risk of side effects like pancreatitis and liver problems.
• Ribavirin: Increases the risk of liver toxicity when used with Stavudine.
• Interferon alfa: Can raise the risk of lactic acidosis when combined with Lamivudine and Stavudine.
• Drugs affecting kidneys: Medicines such as aminoglycoside antibiotics or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can raise the level of Lamivudine in the blood, increasing side effects.

Avoid combining this medicine with alcohol or recreational drugs as it may worsen liver toxicity or neuropathy. Always check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting or stopping any medication.

• Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C, away from light and moisture.
• Do not skip doses. If you miss one, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s close to the next dose, skip the missed one.
• Do not double-dose to make up for a missed one.
• In case of overdose, seek immediate medical help even if there are no symptoms.

Lamistar 30 Tablet is available in tablet or capsule form. It is usually taken orally twice a day, with or without food. Swallow it whole with water and avoid crushing or chewing the tablet unless advised by a healthcare provider. For best results, take the medicine at the same time each day to maintain a consistent level in your body.

Common side effects:

• Headache
• Nausea or vomiting
• Tiredness or fatigue
• Diarrhea
• Peripheral neuropathy (tingling or numbness in hands or feet)
• Fever or chills

Serious side effects (seek immediate medical help):

• Lactic acidosis (deep rapid breathing, stomach pain, muscle weakness)
• Severe liver problems (yellowing of skin/eyes, dark urine)
• Pancreatitis (severe stomach pain, nausea)
• Muscle weakness or loss of muscle
• Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling)

Do not stop taking Lamistar 30 Tablet without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better. Skipping doses can lead to viral resistance, making treatment less effective. Keep regular follow-up appointments to monitor your blood counts, liver function, and signs of side effects. Inform your doctor about any numbness, muscle pain, or unusual fatigue. Always practice safe sex and avoid sharing personal items like razors or toothbrushes.
