Mounjaro 2.5 mg KwikPen contains Tirzepatide as its active ingredient. It is a prescription medicine supplied as a multi-dose prefilled pen. Each dose contains 2.5 mg of Tirzepatide in 0.6 mL, and one pen provides four once-weekly doses. The total usable content is 10 mg in 2.4 mL. This presentation is different from the 2.5 mg/0.5 mL single-dose vial. 

Mounjaro 2.5 mg KwikPen is used for:

• Type 2 diabetes mellitus: To improve blood sugar control along with diet and exercise.

• Weight management: To support weight loss and weight maintenance in eligible adults with obesity or overweight and at least one weight-related health condition. Use it with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

Use Mounjaro 2.5 mg KwikPen only for the condition for which it has been prescribed.

Mounjaro 2.5 mg KwikPen contains Tirzepatide, which acts on two hormone receptors called GIP and GLP-1 receptors. These receptors are involved in blood sugar regulation and appetite.

Tirzepatide increases insulin release when blood sugar is high and reduces the release of glucagon, a hormone that raises blood sugar. It also slows stomach emptying and can reduce appetite and food intake. These actions help lower blood sugar and support weight management.

Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements you take.

• Insulin and sulfonylureas: Using Mounjaro 2.5 mg KwikPen with these medicines can increase the risk of low blood sugar. Your doctor may adjust their dose.

• Medicines taken by mouth: Mounjaro 2.5 mg KwikPen slows stomach emptying and may affect the absorption of some medicines taken by mouth.

• Oral hormonal contraceptives: Tirzepatide can affect the absorption of oral hormonal contraceptives, particularly when treatment is started or the dose is increased. Discuss contraception with your doctor.

• Store Mounjaro 2.5 mg KwikPen in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C.

• Do not freeze Mounjaro 2.5 mg KwikPen. Do not use it if it has been frozen.

• Keep the pen in its original carton to protect it from light.

• If the pen is stored at room temperature, do not expose it to temperatures above 30°C. Discard the pen if it has not been used within 30 days after being removed from refrigeration.

• Follow the product-specific storage and disposal instructions provided with the pen.

Use Mounjaro 2.5 mg KwikPen exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Tirzepatide treatment is usually started at 2.5 mg once weekly. After four weeks, the dose may be increased to 5 mg once weekly according to your doctor's advice.

Mounjaro 2.5 mg KwikPen is generally used once a week. Follow the administration instructions provided with the product and those given by your doctor or pharmacist.

Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects:

• Nausea

• Diarrhoea

• Vomiting

• Constipation

• Abdominal pain

• Indigestion

• Decreased appetite

These effects are more common when the dose is increased and often become less noticeable with continued treatment.

Serious side effects:

• Severe allergic reactions

• Pancreatitis

• Severe gastrointestinal problems, including worsening of severe gastroparesis

• Gallbladder problems

• Low blood sugar, particularly when used with insulin or sulfonylureas

• Worsening diabetic eye disease in people with a history of diabetic retinopathy

• Kidney-function deterioration related to dehydration

Persistent nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea can cause dehydration and may affect kidney function. Seek medical attention for severe or persistent abdominal pain, particularly if it spreads to the back.

If you have severe gastrointestinal disease or gastroparesis, tell your doctor before using Mounjaro 2.5 mg KwikPen.

If you have diabetic retinopathy, your doctor may monitor your eye condition during treatment.

Tell your doctor before surgery, general anaesthesia or deep sedation because Tirzepatide delays stomach emptying and may increase the risk of stomach contents entering the lungs during some procedures.

• Use Mounjaro 2.5 mg KwikPen exactly as prescribed. Do not increase or reduce the dose on your own.

• Mounjaro 2.5 mg is usually the starting dose and is generally used for four weeks before the dose is increased, according to your doctor's advice.

• Follow the diet and physical activity plan recommended by your doctor.

• Tell your doctor if you use insulin or a sulfonylurea because Mounjaro 2.5 mg KwikPen can increase the risk of low blood sugar when used with these medicines.

• Seek medical advice if you develop severe or persistent abdominal pain, particularly if it spreads to the back.

• Tell your doctor about any changes in vision, especially if you have diabetic retinopathy.

• Tell your doctor before surgery, general anaesthesia or deep sedation.

• If you use oral hormonal contraceptives, discuss contraception with your doctor when starting Mounjaro 2.5 mg KwikPen and after dose increases.
