Introduction

Qualifol 150IU Injection contains the active substance Urofollitropin. It is an ovulation stimulator that belongs to the group of medications called gonadotropins. It is used to treat infertility in women who are not ovulating, including those with polycystic ovarian disease, and who have not responded to treatment with another medicine called clomiphene citrate. It is also used to help multiple follicles and, therefore, to promote fertility in women undergoing IVF (in-vitro fertilisation)  or other types of assisted conception. It is also indicated to treat infertility in men due to low sperm count.

Do not take Qualifol 150IU Injection if you are allergic to Urofollitropin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. Do not take this medicine if you have a tumour in the pituitary gland  (a gland located on the base of the brain which produces certain hormones, including growth hormones)  or in the hypothalamus (an area located under the part of the brain called the thalamus which controls the conditions within your body including body temperature and blood pressure) or in the uterus, ovaries, breast, testicles, or in the prostate gland. Before initiating the treatment, you will be checked for underactive thyroid problems, hormone levels, and tumours of the pituitary and hypothalamus.

Do not take Qualifol 150IU Injection if you have ovarian cysts that are not due to PCOD, vaginal bleeding, early menopause, physical problems in the reproductive organs if your womb has been removed, and if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Inform your physician immediately if you face any of these symptoms, such as abdominal pain and swelling, weight gain, diarrhoea, difficulty in breathing, and decreased urination. Inform your physician if you have liver problems and a history of blood clotting disease before starting the treatment with Qualifol 150IU Injection.

Uses

Qualifol 150IU Injection is used in the treatment of the following:

  • Infertility in women

How Qualifol 150IU Injection Works

In the absence of sufficient endogenous luteinising hormone (LH), Qualifol 150IU Injection bind to the follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSH), resulting in ovulation. It also attaches to the LH receptor, causing appropriate hormone release and treating infertility in women.

Interaction of Qualifol 150IU Injection with other drugs

Taking Qualifol 150IU Injection with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and may increase the risk of side effects.

  • Clomiphene (Oral Route) Moderate

Concomitant use may increase ovarian stimulation and raise the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Close medical monitoring is required.

  • Human Chorionic Gonadotropin – hCG (Injection Route) Moderate
    Use only under medical supervision.
Concomitant use is common in fertility treatment but may increase the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation and multiple pregnancies.

  • Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists (Injection Route) Moderate
Dose adjustment may be required when used together.
Concomitant use may alter the response to follitropin and requires careful monitoring.

  • Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonists (Injection Route) Moderate
    Use under specialist supervision.
Concomitant use may change ovarian response and dosing requirements.

  • Oestrogen or Progesterone preparations (Oral/Injection Route) Mild
    Generally safe when prescribed together.

These medicines may be used during fertility treatment cycles, but dosing should be supervised by a doctor.

FAQs

Q1.

What is the purpose of using Qualifol 150IU Injection in fertility treatments?

Qualifol 150IU Injection is used in fertility treatments to help multiple follicles and stimulate the ovaries in women who are undergoing assisted reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilisation (IVF) or intrauterine insemination (IUI). It helps promote the growth, maturation, and release of eggs from the ovaries in women who are not ovulating, including those with PCOD, and who have not responded to treatment with another medicine called clomiphene citrate.

Q2.

What is the source of Qualifol 150IU Injection?

Qualifol 150IU Injection is a highly purified mixture of two hormones called follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinising hormone (LH). FSH and LH are natural hormones produced in both males and females. They help the reproductive organs to work normally.

Q3.

Can Qualifol 150IU Injection increase the chances of multiple pregnancies?

Yes, the use of Qualifol 150IU Injection in fertility treatments can increase the chances of multiple pregnancies, including twins, triplets, or higher-order multiples. This is due to the stimulation of multiple follicles and the potential release of multiple eggs. The risk of multiple pregnancies is a consideration that healthcare providers take into account when determining the dosage and monitoring the treatment.

Q4.

Can Qualifol 150IU Injection be used in men for fertility treatment?

Qualifol 150IU Injection is primarily used in women to stimulate ovulation and promote fertility. It is also used to treat infertility in men due to low sperm count. If you have concerns about male fertility, it is recommended to consult with a healthcare professional for appropriate evaluation and guidance.

Q5.

What are the possible side effects of Qualifol 150IU Injection?

Common side effects of Qualifol 150IU Injection may include injection site reactions, abdominal discomfort, bloating, breast tenderness, headache, and mood swings. However, individual responses may vary, and it is important to discuss any concerns or unexpected side effects with a healthcare professional.
