Salcain 2% Injection consists of the active ingredient Lignocaine. It is a local anaesthetic that is indicated to produce numbness by injecting in the area of operation. It is injected before starting surgical procedures of short duration. It produces loss of feeling or sensation in one part of the body. It also helps to relieve pain in adults when injected into the epidural space of the spinal cord. It is also used for an irregular heartbeat.
Uses of Salcain 2% Injection:
- Production of numbing sensation in the area of operation
- Induction of anaesthesia to cut off nerve conduction
- Alleviation of pain in certain conditions
How Salcain 2% Injection works:
Salcain 2% Injection works by blocking the sodium channels and nerve conduction. It blocks the nerve impulse generation, induces anaesthesia in the skin and paralyzes the muscle supported by the nerve where it is injected. It dilates the blood vessels as soon as it is injected and the effect of anaesthesia is intense and longlasting.
Interaction with other drugs:

How to use Salcain 2% Injection:
Your physician will administer this injection in the area that has to be numbed.
Safety Advice:
Pregnancy:
Inform your physician before starting this treatment if you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant. Your physician will prescribe this medicine only if it is necessary.
Breastfeeding:
Inform your physician before starting this treatment if you are breastfeeding. Your physician will prescribe this medicine only if it is necessary.
Liver:
Inform your physician before starting this treatment if you have liver diseases. Your physician will prescribe a dose accordingly.
Kidney:
Inform your physician before starting this treatment if you have kidney diseases. Your physician will prescribe a dose accordingly.
Driving:
Avoid driving or using machinery as you might experience numbness in certain areas of your body after taking this injection.
Others:
- This medicine is not safe to use if you have low blood volume, heart problems, epilepsy, diarrhea, bleeding, breathing problems or myasthenia gravis. Consult your physician for advice.
- Inform your physician if you experience allergic reactions tolignocaine or its ingredients.
- Inform your physician if you have pus or inflammation before injecting at a particular site.
Side effects are unwanted symptoms caused by medicines. Even though all drugs cause side effects, not everyone gets them.
Serious:
- Severe allergic reactions
- Bluish discoloration of the skin
- Wheezing, itching, breathlessness, swelling of face, eyelids, mouth, etc.
- Changes in heart rate
- Low BP
Common:
- Pain at the site of injection
- Temporary pain at the lower back, buttocks, legs which resolves within a few days
- Numbness or tingling/paralysis of legs
- Irregular bowel movements
- Tinnitus
- Loss of balance
- Dizziness
- Blurred vision
- Nausea
- Fear and anxiety
