Introduction
Zidovance 2.5gm Injection is a powerful combination antibiotic injection used to treat serious bacterial infections. It contains Ceftazidime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, and Avibactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Together, they fight tough, resistant bacteria that cause severe infections in the lungs (like pneumonia), abdomen, and urinary tract.
This medicine is usually given in hospitals under the supervision of a healthcare professional. It’s often reserved for infections that don’t respond well to standard antibiotics.
Before using this medicine, inform your doctor if you have allergies to cephalosporins, penicillins, or any antibiotics. People with kidney problems or a history of seizures should also take extra caution, as dose adjustments may be needed. Diarrhoea is a known side effect, if it becomes severe or bloody, notify your doctor immediately. Zidovance 2.5gm Injection price varies by retailer and location.
Uses
Zidovance 2.5gm Injection uses :
Pneumonia, including hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated pneumonia
Urinary tract infections (UTIs), including kidney infections
Complicated abdominal infections
How Zidovance 2.5gm Injection works
Ceftazidime works by blocking the bacteria’s ability to build its protective cell wall, causing the bacteria to die. Avibactam supports this action by stopping certain enzymes (beta-lactamases) that could otherwise destroy the antibiotic. This powerful duo makes the medicine highly effective against resistant bacteria.
Interaction of Zidovance 2.5gm Injection with other drugs
Calcium Containing IV Solutions (Severe)
Ceftriaxone should never be mixed with intravenous calcium products. Combining them can lead to calcium ceftriaxone precipitates, especially dangerous in newborns. For adults, spacing doses is required if calcium therapy cannot be stopped.Anticoagulants such as Warfarin (Severe)
Ceftriaxone can enhance the blood thinning effect of warfarin and similar agents. This raises the risk of bleeding. INR monitoring and dose adjustment may be needed.Aminoglycoside Antibiotics (Moderate)
Medicines like amikacin or gentamicin may increase kidney toxicity when given with ceftriaxone. Doctors usually monitor kidney function when both classes are used together.Probenecid (Moderate)
Probenecid can slow down the elimination of ceftriaxone from the body, causing higher drug levels. Dose monitoring or adjustment may be required.Loop Diuretics (Moderate)
Drugs such as furosemide may raise the chance of renal side effects when taken with ceftriaxone. Although uncommon, patients should be monitored for dehydration or kidney strain.
