• Supportive care in CKD: To support the balance of gut bacteria as part of the treatment plan set by your nephrologist.

• Digestive health: The prebiotic fibre helps feed the beneficial bacteria, which may support digestion and ease constipation.

• Convenience: A probiotic and a prebiotic in one capsule can help reduce the number of tablets taken.

• Medical supervision: A 2023 Cochrane review found it uncertain whether such products improve kidney function, kidney toxin levels or quality of life, so your doctor decides whether it is right for you.

The capsule adds live beneficial bacteria to the gut. Fructooligosaccharides are a type of fibre that people cannot digest, but the gut bacteria can use it as food.

People with CKD often have an imbalance of gut bacteria, and this has been linked with uraemic toxins. Probiotics and prebiotics are used to help restore the balance. Clinical trials so far are small and of low certainty, so benefits for kidney function have not been established.

Take Synprotik 90 Capsule exactly as advised by your doctor. According to retailer listings, the usual dose is one or two capsules a day. Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of cool water. Do not crush or chew it.

• Take the capsule at about the same time each day.

• Do not take more than the amount advised.

• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember and carry on as usual. Do not take a double dose.

• Blood in your stool.

• Signs of a serious infection, such as confusion, a fast heartbeat or feeling very unwell.

• Use Synprotik 90 only on the advice of your nephrologist.

• Take it with cool or room-temperature water, never with hot drinks.

• Swallow the capsule whole and do not crush or chew it.

• Keep it refrigerated unless the pack says otherwise.

• If you are on an antibiotic, ask your doctor or pharmacist about timing.

• Tell your doctor if you have weakened immunity, are on immunosuppressive medicines or have a central venous catheter.

• Do not combine it with other probiotic or fibre supplements unless advised.

• Keep your regular kidney blood tests, because the capsule does not replace your kidney treatment.

• Review with your doctor whether you still need it, since benefits for kidney function are not proven.
