BIOPOSIDE 100MG INJECTION

Introduction:

Bioposide 100mg Injection  is a chemotherapy medication containing the active constituent etoposide. It is used to treat certain types of cancers such as testicular cancer, small-cell lung cancer, acute myeloid leukemia (blood cancer), tumour in the lymphatic system (Hodgkin’s lymphoma, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma), and reproductive system cancers (ovarian cancer and gestational trophoblastic neoplasia) in adults. In children, this medicine is used to treat acute myeloid leukemia, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Talk to your doctor if you have had radiotherapy or chemotherapy recently, any infections, low levels of a protein called albumin in your blood, kidney diseases, epilepsy, alcohol addiction, or liver disorders before taking this chemotherapy medication. Bioposide 100mg Injection should not be taken if you have recently been vaccinated with yellow fever vaccine and live vaccines and if you are a breastfeeding woman.

Use effective birth control during the treatment and for at least 6 months after the last dose. Bioposide 100mg Injection contains benzyl alcohol. Benzyl alcohol can cause gasping syndrome (breathing problems) in young children. Administration of this medicine may cause a reduction in the level of blood cells and increase the risk of developing infections.

Uses of Bioposide 100mg Injection:

• Testicular cancer
• Small-cell lung cancer
• Acute myeloid leukemia
• Hodgkin’s lymphoma and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
• Gestational trophoblastic neoplasia and ovarian cancer

How Bioposide 100mg Injection works:

Bioposide 100mg Injection inhibits the enzyme DNA topoisomerase II, thereby inhibiting DNA synthesis. This slows the growth of cancer cells.

Interactions with other drugs:

Inform your doctor about any medications you are taking or have taken before the treatment.

More information:

• Keep Bioposide 100mg Injection out of sight and reach of children.
• Store at controlled room temperature between 15°C to 30°C. Do not refrigerate or freeze.

It will be given to you by a doctor or nurse. 

Safety advice:

Pregnancy:

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant before taking Bioposide 100mg Injection. It will be given to you if clearly needed.

Breastfeeding:

You must not breastfeed while you are being treated with Bioposide 100mg Injection. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding before taking this medication.

Liver:

You need to tell your doctor if you have any liver disorders before taking Bioposide 100mg Injection. Your doctor may perform blood tests regularly to monitor your condition.

Kidney:

You need to tell your doctor if you have any kidney disorders before taking Bioposide 100mg Injection. Your doctor may perform blood tests regularly to monitor your condition.

Driving: 

Avoid driving if you feel tired or dizzy while taking Bioposide 100mg Injection.

Others:

Inform your doctor if you:

• Have been vaccinated recently with a live vaccine.
• Suffer from alcohol addiction as this medicine contains alcohol.

Side effects are unwanted symptoms caused by medicines. Even though all medicines cause side effects, not everyone gets them.

Serious:

• Severe allergic reactions (swelling of tongue, or throat, breathing difficulties, rash, flushing, fast heartbeat)

Common:

• Nausea, vomiting
• Loss of appetite
• Abdominal pain
• Constipation, diarrhea
• Blood disorders
• Abnormal liver function
• Changes in skin color
• Weakness
• Hair loss
• High or low blood pressure
• Infection
• Dizziness
• Redness of the skin
• Sore lips, throat, or mouth ulcers
