Dexlog Injection contains an active substance called dexmedetomidine, which belongs to a group of medications called sedatives. It is used to provide sedation (a state of calm, drowsiness, or sleep) for adult patients in hospital intensive care settings or awake sedation during different diagnostic or surgical procedures.

It is not recommended to use this medicine if you are allergic to dexmedetomidine or any of the other ingredients. Additionally, inform your doctor if you have disorders of heart, or if you experience very low blood pressure that does not respond to treatment. Avoid this medication if you have recently had a stroke or any other serious condition impacting the blood supply to the brain. Dexlog Injection acts on alpha-2 adrenergic receptors, inhibits the release of a chemical substance called norepinephrine, and terminates the spread of pain signals in the brain, providing calm and relaxation. When given slowly at lower and moderate doses, it mainly targets one type of  alpha1 receptor, providing a soothing effect. However, at higher doses or when given quickly, it can affect both types of alpha1 and alpha2 receptors.

Inform your doctor about any prescribed medications, over-the-counter medicines, nutritional or vitamin supplements, and herbal products you take or have taken before the treatment. Certain medications may interact with Dexlog Injection and cause undesirable side effects.

Dexlog Injection is given only in a hospital set up by a trained healthcare provider. It will be given to you as an injection into your muscle (intramuscularly) for adults in the arm and children in the thigh. Your doctor will decide your most apt dosage based on age, body weight, and physical circumstances.

Side effects are unwanted symptoms caused by medicines. Even though all medicines cause side effects, not everyone gets them.

Inform your healthcare provider about any symptoms occurring within 48 hours after the treatment with Dexlog Injection injection, such as nervousness, agitation, headaches (associated with infusions lasting over 6 hours), weakness, confusion, excessive sweating, weight loss, abdominal pain, salt cravings, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, or light-headedness promptly.

Adhere strictly to the directed safety measures provided by your healthcare provider. It is important to attend all scheduled appointments and follow-up visits to monitor the response to Dexlog Injection treatment.
