Fibristone 25mg Tablet

Fibristone 25mg Tablet is approved for the following uses: 

• Medical termination of intrauterine pregnancy up to 70 days of gestation.
• Control of hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) in adults with Cushing's syndrome who have type 2 diabetes or glucose intolerance and cannot undergo surgery.
• Softening and dilating the cervix before surgical abortion procedures.

This medicine works by blocking progesterone, a hormone required to sustain a pregnancy. In early pregnancy, the uterus needs progesterone to stay thick and suitable for embryo growth. By stopping this hormone’s action, the uterine lining breaks down, leading to the detachment of the pregnancy. When used with another medicine that causes contractions, it helps in expelling the pregnancy tissue safely. In Cushing's syndrome, it works by blocking cortisol's effects, helping manage high blood sugar levels that are hard to control otherwise.

• HIV medications (protease inhibitors): Can increase the level of Mifepristone in the body and the risk of side effects.
