Imatib 400mg uses

• Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML)

• Philadelphia chromosome positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ph-positive ALL)

• Myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative diseases (MDS/MPD)

• Hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES)

• Chronic eosinophilic leukemia (CEL)

• Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP)

• Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST)

Imatib 400mg tablet is a protein-tyrosine kinase inhibitor that blocks a specific abnormal protein created by a chromosomal abnormality that signals cancer cells to multiply. It inhibits the multiplication and induces cell death in abnormal cancer cells. 

1. Strong CYP3A4 Inhibitors (Severe)
   Medicines like ketoconazole, itraconazole, and clarithromycin can raise imatinib levels, increasing the risk of liver toxicity and severe side effects. Close monitoring or dose adjustment is required.

2. CYP3A4 Inducers (Severe)
   Drugs such as rifampicin, phenytoin, and carbamazepine can lower imatinib concentration, reducing its cancer-treating effect. Doctors usually avoid this combination.

3. Warfarin and Other Anticoagulants (Severe)
   Imatinib may increase bleeding risk when used with warfarin or similar blood thinners. Switching to safer alternatives or monitoring INR closely is recommended.

4. Paracetamol (Moderate)
   High doses of paracetamol taken with imatinib may increase the risk of liver strain. Patients should use this combination cautiously and under supervision.

5. Erythromycin (Moderate)
   Erythromycin can elevate imatinib levels in the body, raising side effect potential. Medical supervision is essential during combined use.

6. Statins (Moderate)
   Statins metabolized by CYP3A4, such as simvastatin, may accumulate when used with imatinib, increasing the risk of muscle toxicity. Doctors may choose alternative statins.

• Store Imatib 400mg tablet in room temperature (25°C)

• Keep the tablet away from the reach of children and pets.

• If you forgot to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose.

• Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

• Avoid direct contact with crushed tablets with the skin or mucous membrane. If such contact occurs, wash thoroughly.

Your doctor will decide the Imatib 400mg dosage and duration of the treatment based on your disease condition, severity, and other factors. Take the tablets as prescribed by your doctor. Do not break, crush, or chew the tablets. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Take this medicine with a meal to avoid stomach problems. If you are unable to swallow the tablets, you can dissolve them as per your doctor's advice. 

Imatib 400mg side effects are unwanted symptoms caused by medicines. Even though all drugs cause side effects, not everyone gets them.

Serious

• Heart failure

• Hypothyroidism

• Liver failure

• Swelling in the body

• You may become more sensitive to sunlight while taking Imatib 400mg, so protect exposed skin and use sunscreen after consulting your doctor.
• Use this medicine cautiously if you have kidney problems.
• Inform your doctor if you gain weight quickly, as the tablet may cause water retention.
• Regular lab tests will be done to monitor how well the medicine is working.
• Avoid breastfeeding during treatment and for 15 days after the final dose.
