Isentress 400mg Tablet is approved for the following uses:

• Treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and children (aged 4 weeks and older and weighing at least 3 kg)
• Used as part of a combination therapy for managing HIV infection

Raltegravir works by blocking an enzyme called integrase, which the HIV virus needs to multiply and spread in the body. Without this enzyme, the virus cannot insert its genetic material into healthy cells, making it harder for the infection to grow. This helps to reduce the amount of HIV in the body and allows the immune system to function more effectively. While it does not cure HIV, it helps control the infection when taken regularly with other medications.

• Antacids containing aluminium or magnesium can reduce the absorption of Raltegravir. These should be taken several hours apart.

• Phenytoin and phenobarbital, used to treat seizures, may affect how Raltegravir works.
• Warfarin (blood thinner) may require closer monitoring as Raltegravir can alter its effects.
• Statins such as simvastatin and lovastatin may increase the risk of muscle problems when used with Raltegravir.
• Do not take Raltegravir with products containing St. John’s Wort as it can reduce the drug’s effectiveness.

• Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.
• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one.
