Introduction

Makmel 50mg Injection contains the active constituent Melphalan. It is an anticancer agent that belongs to the class of medications called alkylating agents. It is also used to treat advanced breast and ovarian cancer. It is also indicated for treating polycythemia vera (a disease that increases the number of red blood cells in your blood. This makes the blood thicken and causes blood clots). It works by reducing the number of abnormal cells your body makes.

Do not take Makmel 50mg Injection if you are allergic to melphalan or any of the other ingredients. Inform your physician if you have had radiotherapy or cancer chemotherapy recently or have a kidney problem. Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or planning for pregnancy. Inform your doctor if you have been vaccinated recently or planning to take any vaccination. Report to your physician immediately if you have a rash, lumps or hives on the skin, swollen face, eyelids, or lips, sudden wheeziness, and chest tightness after taking the Makmel 50mg Injection cancer medicine. Price varies by the retailer.

Uses

Makmel 50mg Injection uses are:

  • Multiple myeloma

  • Advanced breast cancer

  • Advanced ovarian cancer

  • Polycythemia vera

How Makmel 50mg Injection Works

Makmel 50mg Injection is an alkylating agent. It exerts its cytotoxic action primarily due to the cross-linking of strands of DNA and RNA, as well as the inhibition of protein synthesis. It works by stopping or slowing the growth of cancer cells in your body.

Interaction of Makmel 50mg Injection with other drugs

  1. Live Vaccines (Life threatening)
Melphalan suppresses immune function, allowing live vaccines to cause serious infections. Live vaccines must be avoided during and after treatment.

  2. Other Bone Marrow Suppressing Medicines (Severe)
Combining melphalan with other chemotherapy drugs can greatly increase the risk of low blood counts, infections, and bleeding. Regular blood monitoring is required.

  3. Radiation Therapy (Severe)
Using radiation near the time of melphalan treatment can intensify bone marrow toxicity. Careful treatment planning is essential.

  4. Clozapine (Severe)
Both medicines can significantly lower white blood cell counts, increasing the risk of life threatening infections. This combination is usually avoided.

  5. Cyclosporine or Tacrolimus (Moderate)
These immunosuppressants may further weaken immune defenses when used with melphalan. Close monitoring for infections is advised.

  6. Warfarin and Other Anticoagulants (Moderate)
Reduced platelet counts may increase bleeding risk. INR and signs of bleeding should be monitored closely.

  7. Inactivated Vaccines (Mild)
Vaccine response may be reduced due to immune suppression. Vaccination timing may need adjustment.

Storage

  • Store in a refrigerator, 2° to 8°C

  • Protect the medicine from light and excessive moisture.

  • Keep the medicine out of reach of children and pets

  • If you forgot to take the tablet, simply take your next dose at the scheduled time. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

How to consume Makmel 50mg Injection

Your doctor will decide on the Makmel 50mg Injection dosage and duration based on the disease condition and other factors. Always take this medicine as prescribed by your doctor. Take the tablet at the same time, with or without food. Do not break, chew, crush, or break the tablet. Swallow the whole tablet with water.
