Solu-Medrol 500mg uses are

• Treatment of allergic conditions

• Rheumatic, blood, skin, eye, and endocrine disorders

• Leukemia and lymphomas (palliative management)

• Pain related to surgery (organ transplants)

• Multiple sclerosis

• Ulcerative colitis

It works by binding to glucocorticoid receptors and inhibits the production of substances (such as prostaglandins) that lead to inflammation and allergies.

1. NSAIDs (Severe)
   Using NSAIDs like ibuprofen with Solu Medrol increases the risk of stomach bleeding or ulcers. Use only under medical supervision.

2. Antidiabetic Medicines (Moderate)
   Methylprednisolone can raise blood sugar levels and reduce the effectiveness of insulin or oral hypoglycemics. Frequent glucose monitoring is advised.

3. Anticoagulants (Moderate)
   Steroids may alter the effect of warfarin, increasing or decreasing INR. Regular monitoring is required.

4. Live Vaccines (Severe)
   Solu Medrol suppresses immunity and can increase the risk of infection when taken with live vaccines. Avoid unless advised by a doctor.

5. Antifungals like Ketoconazole (Moderate)
   Ketoconazole may increase steroid levels in the blood, raising the risk of side effects. Dose adjustment may be required.

6. Rifampicin / Phenytoin (Moderate)
   These medicines can reduce steroid levels by increasing metabolism, lowering Solu Medrol’s effectiveness. Doctors may modify dosing.

Solu medrol 500mg injection will be administered to you by a healthcare professional in a hospital setting. This injection will be given intramuscularly or intravenously into a vein in your arm. Do not self-administer this medicine. It is available in two strengths 40 mg/mL and 80 mg/mL. The Solu-Medrol injection dosage of the injection will be decided by your doctor based on your disease condition and other factors.

Side effects are unwanted symptoms caused by medicines. Even though all drugs cause side effects, not everyone gets them.

• Allergic reactions (wheezing, swelling of face, difficulty breathing)

• Stomach pain spreading to your back, accompanied by vomiting and loss of consciousness

• Bleeding ulcers

• Infections

• Blood clots in the lung (chest pain, coughing up blood, breathlessness)

• Raised pressure within the skull (lack of energy, drowsiness)

• Blood clots in the leg vein

Common

• High blood pressure, headache

• Swelling

• Ulcers

• Vision problems

• Poor wound healing

• Round or moon-shaped face

• Slow growth in infants, children, and adolescents

• Muscle and bone weakness

• Feeling depressed or high, difficulty in thinking, memory loss

• Acne, bruising

• Thinning of skin

• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to conceive, as Solu Medrol 500 mg Injection may harm the baby.

• Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice while using this medication.

• This injection can disturb fluid and electrolyte balance, especially at higher doses.

• Possible effects include increased blood pressure, salt and water retention, and potassium loss.

• These issues are less common with long term or very high dose therapy.

• Your doctor may advise reducing salt intake to help prevent fluid retention.

• Potassium rich foods or supplements may be recommended to maintain healthy potassium levels.
