Introduction

Tosovap Tablet contains an active component called Tolvaptan. It belongs to a class of Vasopressin antagonists. The medicine increases the excretion of water in the urine, which increases aquaresis (water excretion without loss of electrolyte) and also decreases the osmolarity of urine (measurement of urine concentration), which increases serum sodium concentration. This medicine needs close monitoring of blood sodium levels. Patients are advised to take enough water during the treatment to avoid dehydration. Those who are restricted are recommended to consult the healthcare provider.

Before starting the treatment, consult your doctor if you have kidney and liver disorders or are allergic to ingredients such as benzazepine, Tosovap Tablet, or other benzazepine derivatives. This medicine is contraindicated to patients with Anuria (lack of urine), Hypovolemic hyponatremia (Deficiency in both total body water and sodium level), Hypernatremia (high sodium level in blood), and patients who cannot feel thirst. So, it is recommended that you discuss your medical history with your doctor. The safety and efficacy of children below 18 years old are unknown; hence, consult your doctor before giving the medicine to children.

Uses

Tosovap Tablet uses are:

  • Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease [ADPKD]

How Tosovap Tablet Works

Tosovap Tablet blocks the vasopressin hormone effect (antidiuretic hormone- that helps to prevent water loss), decreases the amount of water in your body by increasing urine production, and, as a result, raises the concentration of sodium in your blood.

Avoid drinking grapefruit juice before or after the medication. It may interact with the drug.

Storage Conditions

  • Keep children away from the sight and reach of this medication.
