Introduction

Tucaone 50 mg Tablet is a medicine used to treat a specific type of breast cancer called HER2-positive breast cancer, especially when it has spread to other parts of the body, including the brain. It is usually given along with two other medicines: trastuzumab and capecitabine. This aligns with Tucaone 50 mg use in clinical practice.

This medicine works by blocking a protein (HER2) that helps cancer cells grow. By inhibiting this protein, Tucatinib helps slow down or stop the cancer from spreading further. Tucaone 50 mg is not a chemotherapy drug; rather, it is a targeted therapy, meaning it specifically targets cancer cells and causes less harm to healthy cells. It is given only with a doctor’s advice, and regular checkups are needed during treatment to ensure the medicine is working safely.

Like all medications, Tucaone 50 mg side effects can occur. Common side effects include diarrhoea, fatigue, nausea, and changes in liver enzymes. Always consult with your healthcare provider if you experience any side effects or unusual symptoms during treatment.

Uses

Tucaone 50 mg Tablet is used for:

  • HER2-positive advanced or metastatic breast cancer

  • Brain metastases in HER2+ breast cancer patients

  • Use in combination with trastuzumab and capecitabine after previous HER2-directed therapies

This therapy is typically considered when other standard HER2 treatments have become ineffective.

How Tucaone 50 mg Tablet Works

Tucaone 50 mg Tablet belongs to a group of medicines known as tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). It works by:

  • Specifically targeting the HER2 receptor, a protein that promotes cancer cell growth

  • Blocking HER2-related signalling pathways that drive tumour progression

  • Working synergistically with other anticancer drugs like trastuzumab and capecitabine

  • Crossing the blood-brain barrier to treat cancer that has spread to the brain

This focused mechanism helps slow disease progression while minimising impact on normal cells.

Interaction of Tucaone 50 mg Tablet with Other Drugs

Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products you take. Tucaone 50 mg Tablet may interact with:

  • Azole antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole)

  • Macrolide antibiotics (e.g., clarithromycin)

  • Rifampin and rifabutin (may reduce Tucatinib levels)

  • Anticonvulsants like phenytoin, carbamazepine

  • St. John’s Wort (a herbal product that can reduce effectiveness)

  • Proton pump inhibitors and other acid-lowering agents

These interactions may either increase toxicity or reduce Tucatinib's effectiveness.

Storage Conditions

  • Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight.

  • Keep in the original blister or bottle until ready to use.

  • Do not freeze or expose to moisture.

  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.

  • Safely discard expired or unused capsules—do not flush them.

How To Use

  • Take Tucatinib by mouth, exactly as prescribed by your oncologist.

  • Usually taken twice a day (every 12 hours), with or without food.

  • Swallow capsules whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or open them.

  • Take at the same time every day to maintain steady drug levels.

  • If vomiting occurs after taking a dose, do not retake it. Wait for the next scheduled dose.

  • Do not miss doses, and do not stop without consulting your doctor.
