ORNIDAZOLE
Background and Date of Approval Ornidazole
Ornidazole is an antimicrobial molecule from the nitroimidazole class. It was developed to combat infections caused by anaerobic bacteria and protozoa, organisms that thrive in low or no-oxygen environments. Its clinical importance grew due to strong activity against pathogens responsible for intestinal, gynecologic, dental, and liver-based infections. The molecule entered medical use in global markets in the early 1970s after completing clinical safety and efficacy evaluations. It was later widely adopted across countries for the treatment of amoebiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis, and anaerobic bacterial infections.
