PURIFIED TURMERIC EXTRACT,BLACK PEPPER EXTRACT
Background and Date of Approval
Purified turmeric extract, rich in curcuminoids like curcumin, is valued for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and has received GRAS (Generally Recognised as Safe) status from the U.S. FDA for use in foods, spices, and as a natural colourant. A highly concentrated curcuminoid preparation (GRN 460, over 95% curcuminoids) was officially recognised as safe in August 2013.
Black pepper extract, standardised for its active compound piperine, is widely used as a natural bioenhancer to improve the absorption and effectiveness of nutrients and medications, including curcumin. Discovered in 1819 by chemist Hans Christian Ørsted, piperine is considered safe in appropriate amounts and gained notable pharmaceutical application in 2011 with the approval of Risorine, an Indian anti-tuberculosis drug that combines piperine with standard TB medications to enhance efficacy and reduce costs.
Uses
Purified Turmeric Extract, Black Pepper Extract are used for:
-
Supporting joint flexibility and reducing mild inflammation
-
Promoting digestive health and easing bloating
-
Enhancing immune function
-
Protecting cells from oxidative stress
-
Maintaining healthy skin and general well-being
How it works
Turmeric extract contains curcumin, which blocks certain enzymes and pathways responsible for inflammation and helps neutralise harmful free radicals. Black pepper extract contains piperine, which significantly improves the absorption of curcumin in the body. This enhanced absorption allows the supplement to deliver stronger anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits, supporting joint comfort, digestion, immunity, and cellular health.
Drug Administration and Dosage Available
Purified turmeric extract (curcuminoids) is usually taken in doses of 500–2,000 mg per day, often divided into two servings. For joint conditions like arthritis, 500 mg twice daily is common. High doses should only be used under medical supervision, especially for people with liver problems.
Black pepper extract (piperine) is generally taken in amounts of 5–20 mg per day, often in combination with turmeric to improve absorption. Health Canada recommends no more than 14 mg daily for isolated piperine. Always follow product instructions and seek medical advice before use, particularly if you have health conditions or take other medications.
