Biraone 500mg Tablet is used in the treatment of advanced or metastatic prostate cancer. It may be prescribed for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer or certain patients with newly diagnosed high-risk metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer.

The medicine is usually used along with prednisone or prednisolone. Men who have not undergone surgical removal of the testicles may also need continued androgen deprivation therapy during treatment.

Biraone 500mg Tablet contains Abiraterone Acetate, which blocks an enzyme called CYP17 that is involved in androgen production.

By reducing androgen production in the testes, adrenal glands, and prostate cancer tissue, Abiraterone Acetate lowers the hormonal stimulation that can support prostate cancer growth. Because it also reduces cortisol production, Biraone is given with prednisone or prednisolone to help reduce the effects of increased mineralocorticoid activity.

Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, supplements, and herbal products you take.

• Strong CYP3A4 inducers: Medicines such as rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, and phenobarbital can reduce Abiraterone exposure and may affect treatment.

• Medicines affected by CYP2D6: Biraone can increase the exposure of some medicines metabolised by CYP2D6. Tell your doctor if you take medicines with a narrow therapeutic range.

• Prednisone or prednisolone: Biraone is normally used with a corticosteroid. Do not change or stop the corticosteroid without medical advice.

• Medicines that affect potassium or fluid balance: Some medicines for blood pressure, heart conditions, or fluid retention can affect potassium levels or blood pressure and may require monitoring.

• Diabetes medicines: Abiraterone treatment can affect blood glucose in some people. Tell your doctor if you take diabetes medicines.

• Store Biraone 500mg Tablet according to the storage instructions on the product packaging.

• Keep the tablets in their original packaging and protect them from moisture.

• Keep the medicine out of the reach of children.

• Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should not handle Abiraterone tablets without appropriate protection, such as gloves.

Take Biraone 500mg Tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

The usual total daily dose of Abiraterone Acetate is 1,000 mg. When the 500 mg strength is prescribed, this may correspond to two 500 mg tablets taken together once daily. Your doctor will decide the appropriate dose for you.

Take Biraone on an empty stomach. Do not take it with food because food can substantially increase the amount of Abiraterone absorbed and may increase the risk of side effects. Follow your doctor's instructions about how long to wait before and after meals.

Swallow the tablets whole with water. Do not crush or chew them.

Common side effects of Biraone 500mg Tablet may include:

• Fatigue

• High blood pressure

• Joint pain

• Nausea

• Swelling of the feet or legs

• Low potassium levels

• Hot flushes

• Vomiting

• Headache

• Cough

Abiraterone can also cause changes in liver function tests, blood sugar, cholesterol, and other blood test results.

Serious side effects

Seek medical attention if you develop:

• Severe or persistent abdominal pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, or other signs of liver problems.

• Severe weakness, muscle cramps, irregular heartbeat, or other symptoms that may indicate very low potassium.

• Significant swelling, rapid weight gain, or worsening shortness of breath due to fluid retention.

• Severe or persistent high blood pressure.

• Symptoms of adrenal insufficiency such as marked weakness, dizziness, or low blood pressure, particularly during illness or physical stress.

• Severe allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat or difficulty breathing.

Your doctor may regularly monitor blood pressure, potassium levels, liver function, and signs of fluid retention during treatment.

• Take Biraone exactly as prescribed by your oncologist.

• Take the tablets on an empty stomach and do not take them with food.

• Do not crush, chew, or split the tablets unless your doctor specifically advises otherwise.

• Take prednisone or prednisolone exactly as prescribed with Biraone.

• Do not stop prednisone or prednisolone suddenly without speaking to your doctor.

• Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, high blood pressure, heart problems, low potassium, or diabetes.

• Keep all scheduled blood tests and follow-up appointments during treatment.

• Tell your doctor about every medicine, supplement, or herbal product you use.

• Do not use Biraone with radium-223 unless specifically directed by your specialist.
