Introduction to Cilamin 250mg Capsule
Cilamin 250mg capsule contains the active substance penicillamine. Primarily it is a chelating agent, which means it can bind to certain metals in your body, including copper and lead, to help remove them from your body. It is used to treat Wilson’s disease and lead poisoning. It also belongs to a group of medicines called DMARDS (disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs). It helps to relieve the pain and stiffness caused by rheumatoid arthritis in adults and children. It also treats still’s diseases in children.
Cilamin 250mg capsule also treats a kidney problem called cystinuria in adults and children. It is also indicated to treat chronic active hepatitis (a type of liver disease) in adults. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to penicillamine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. Do not take this medicine if you have ever had a reduction in WBC after taking this medicine. Do not take this medicine if you have ever had aplastic anemia (severe reduction in blood cells), lupus erythematosus (an allergic condition that causes skin rashes), or kidney problems.
Do not consume this medicine if you have ever had thrombocytopenia (a blood disorder that causes bleeding into your skin, bruising, and more bleeding than usual after an injury). Inform your physician if you have protein in your urine, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have blood in your urine, if you have an active infection, and if you are an elderly patient. Your doctor will recommend you take complete blood and urine tests before initiating the treatment.
Uses of Cilamin 250mg Capsule
Cilamin 250mg Capsule is used in the treatment of the following:
- Relieve pain and stiffness caused by rheumatoid arthritis.
- Treats lead poisoning
- Treats Still’s disease in children
- Treats Wilson’s disease
- Treats cystinuria
- Chronic active hepatitis
- Occasionally used in treating ankylosing spondylitis
Therapeutic Effects of Cilamin 250mg Capsule
As a chelating agent, Cilamin 250mg capsule chelates mercury, lead, copper, iron, and probably other heavy metals to form stable, soluble complexes that are readily excreted in the urine. In cystinuria, it lowers excess cystine excretion. It also inhibits the production of tropocollagen cross-links and cleaves them when newly created. The method of action in rheumatoid arthritis is uncertain; however, it appears to reduce disease activity.

Swallow the capsules as a whole with a glass of water. Do not break, chew, crush, or dissolve the capsules. Take the capsules on an empty stomach.

Breast Feeding
Breastfeeding is not recommended in patients taking Cilamin 250mg capsule because the medicine passes into the breast milk in small amounts and may harm your baby.
Alcohol
It is unknown whether consuming alcohol is safe during the treatment with Cilamin 250mg capsule. Inform your doctor if you are a chronic drinker.
Liver
Cilamin 250mg capsule should be used cautiously in patients with liver disorders. Consult your doctor if you have any liver problems before starting the treatment.
Lungs
It is unknown whether Cilamin 250mg capsule can be used in patients with lung disorders. Consult your doctor if you have any lung diseases before starting the treatment.
Driving
Cilamin 250mg capsule does not affect the ability to drive. If you feel tired or dizzy after taking this medicine, do not drive and consult your doctor for more advice.
Pregnancy
Cilamin 250mg capsule is unsafe to administer in pregnant women because it may affect the fetus. Inform your physician if you are pregnant, suspect pregnancy, or planning to become pregnant.
