Introduction
Exelon 18mg Patch belongs to the family cholinesterase inhibitors with an active ingredient called Rivastigmine. It treats mild to moderately severe Alzheimer's dementia in adults. Alzheimer's is a condition where a progressive brain disorder affects memory, intellect, and behavior. In this condition, specific nerve cells in the brain die, leading to reduced levels of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is essential for nerve cell communication. This medicine works by blocking the enzymes that break down acetylcholine, which helps reduce Alzheimer's symptoms. Additionally, it is also used to treat dementia in adult patients with Parkinson's disease.
Do not use Exelon 18mg Patch if you are allergic to Rivastigmine and its other ingredients. Do not use this patch if you experience a skin reaction that spreads beyond the patch area or an intense local reaction like blisters, increased skin inflammation, or swelling that does not improve within 48 hours after removing the patch; you should avoid this and inform your doctor promptly. This patch is not suitable for children with Alzheimer's disease.
Before taking Exelon 18mg Patch, inform your doctor if you have a history of irregular or slow heartbeat, active stomach ulcers, difficulties in passing urine, seizures, asthma, severe respiratory disease, trembling, low body weight, gastrointestinal reactions like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, or impaired liver function. Your doctor will assess your medical condition and determine if this patch is suitable for you. It's essential to inform your healthcare provider about any pre-existing health conditions to ensure safe and effective use of the medication. If you miss the patch for three days, consult your doctor before taking the next dose.
