Introduction
Poviztra 2.4mg FlexTouch contains Semaglutide, a medicine belonging to a group called GLP-1 receptor agonists. It is supplied as a prefilled FlexTouch pen for once-weekly administration under the skin. The 2.4mg strength is the maintenance dose used in the recommended dose-escalation schedule for weight management.
Uses of Poviztra 2.4mg FlexTouch
Poviztra 2.4mg FlexTouch is used to:
Manage obesity: It is used along with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for chronic weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 kg/m² or greater.
Manage overweight with weight-related health conditions: It may be used in adults with a BMI of 27 kg/m² or greater who have at least one weight-related condition such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus or dyslipidaemia.
Reduce cardiovascular risk: It is indicated to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events, including cardiovascular death, non-fatal heart attack and non-fatal stroke, in adults with established cardiovascular disease who have obesity or overweight.
How Poviztra 2.4mg FlexTouch Works
Poviztra 2.4mg FlexTouch contains Semaglutide, which activates GLP-1 receptors involved in appetite and food intake regulation.
It increases feelings of fullness, reduces hunger and can decrease food intake. Semaglutide also slows stomach emptying, which can contribute to reduced appetite and support weight management when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and physical activity.
Interaction of Poviztra 2.4mg FlexTouch with Other Medicines
Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements you take.
Insulin or sulfonylureas: Using Semaglutide with these medicines may increase the risk of low blood sugar.
Other GLP-1 medicines or Semaglutide-containing products: Do not use Poviztra with another Semaglutide-containing medicine or another GLP-1 receptor agonist unless specifically prescribed.
Oral medicines: Semaglutide can delay stomach emptying and may affect the absorption of some medicines taken by mouth. Tell your doctor about medicines that require careful monitoring.
Storage Conditions
Store Poviztra 2.4mg FlexTouch in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C.
Do not freeze the pen or use it if it has been frozen.
Keep the pen protected from light.
Keep it out of the sight and reach of children.
Follow the product packaging instructions for storage after first use.
How to Use
Poviztra 2.4mg FlexTouch is injected once a week under the skin of the abdomen, thigh or upper arm.
The 2.4mg strength is the usual maintenance dose and is reached gradually after treatment with lower strengths. Do not increase to 2.4mg unless your doctor has advised you to do so.
Use the FlexTouch pen only after you have been shown the correct injection technique by your doctor or nurse. Use a new needle for each injection and do not share the pen with another person.
If you miss a dose, follow the missed-dose instructions provided with your prescription and product information. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.
Safety Advice
Pregnancy
Poviztra should not be used during pregnancy. If you are planning a pregnancy, Semaglutide should generally be stopped at least 2 months beforehand.
Breast Feeding
Poviztra should not be used while breastfeeding. Discuss alternative feeding options with your doctor.
Lungs
Tell your doctor if you are scheduled for surgery or a procedure requiring general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Semaglutide delays stomach emptying and has been associated with a risk of pulmonary aspiration during such procedures.
Liver
Tell your doctor if you have liver disease before starting treatment.
Alcohol
Alcohol may worsen gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. Discuss alcohol use with your doctor.
Driving
Poviztra does not usually directly affect driving. However, dizziness may occur, particularly during dose escalation, and low blood sugar may occur when Semaglutide is used with insulin or sulfonylureas.
Side Effects
Common side effects:
Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhoea
Constipation
Abdominal pain
Headache

Decreased appetite
These effects are more likely when the dose is increased and may become less noticeable as the body adjusts.

Severe allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat
Persistent vomiting or diarrhoea that may lead to dehydration
