Introduction
Rybelsus 7mg Tablet contains Semaglutide, a medicine belonging to a group called GLP-1 receptor agonists. It is a prescription medicine used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, along with diet and exercise. Rybelsus 7mg Tablet is an oral medicine taken once daily. The 7mg strength is generally used after treatment has been started with the 3mg strength and may be continued as a maintenance dose or increased to 14mg if additional blood sugar control is needed.
Uses of Rybelsus 7mg Tablet
Rybelsus 7mg Tablet is used for:
Type 2 diabetes mellitus: It helps improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes when used along with diet and exercise.
Additional blood sugar control: It may be used alone when metformin is not considered appropriate or together with other diabetes medicines, depending on the treatment plan prescribed by your doctor.
Rybelsus is not indicated for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis.
How Rybelsus 7mg Tablet Works
Rybelsus 7mg Tablet contains Semaglutide, which acts like GLP-1, a natural hormone involved in blood sugar regulation.
It helps the pancreas release insulin when blood glucose levels are high and reduces the release of glucagon, a hormone that raises blood glucose. Semaglutide also slows stomach emptying and can reduce appetite, which may affect food intake.
These effects help lower blood glucose levels in people with type 2 diabetes.
Interaction of Rybelsus 7mg Tablet with Other Medicines
Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, supplements and herbal products you take.
Insulin and sulfonylureas: Using Rybelsus with insulin or a sulfonylurea can increase the risk of low blood sugar. Your doctor may adjust the dose of these medicines.
Other oral medicines: Rybelsus can delay stomach emptying and may affect the absorption of medicines taken by mouth. Other oral medicines should generally be taken at least 30 minutes after Rybelsus.
Levothyroxine: Semaglutide may increase exposure to levothyroxine. Your doctor may monitor thyroid-related parameters when these medicines are used together.
Warfarin and other coumarin medicines: Closer monitoring of blood clotting may be needed when Semaglutide is started in people taking warfarin or similar medicines.
Other Semaglutide-containing medicines or GLP-1 receptor agonists: Do not use Rybelsus together with another Semaglutide-containing medicine or GLP-1 receptor agonist unless specifically prescribed by your doctor.
Storage Conditions
Store Rybelsus 7mg Tablet in its original blister packaging to protect it from light and moisture.
Store below 30°C.
Keep the tablets in a dry place.
Keep Rybelsus 7mg Tablet out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use the tablets after the expiry date printed on the packaging.
How to Use
Take Rybelsus 7mg Tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Rybelsus should be taken once daily on an empty stomach after an overnight fasting period of at least 8 hours. Swallow the tablet whole with a small amount of plain water, up to half a glass (120 mL). Do not split, crush or chew the tablet.
After taking Rybelsus, wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking any other oral medicine. Taking food, other drinks or oral medicines sooner can reduce the absorption of Semaglutide.
Rybelsus 7mg Tablet is generally used after taking the 3mg strength once daily for one month. If additional blood sugar control is needed after at least one month on 7mg, your doctor may increase the dose to 14mg.
Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice.
If you miss a dose, skip it and take your next dose on the following day as usual. Do not take two tablets to make up for a missed dose.
Safety Advice
Pregnancy
Rybelsus should not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant while taking Rybelsus or are planning a pregnancy, tell your doctor. Semaglutide should be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.
Breast Feeding
Rybelsus should not be used during breastfeeding because a risk to the breastfed infant cannot be excluded. Speak to your doctor before starting treatment if you are breastfeeding.
Lungs
Tell your doctor if you are scheduled for surgery or a procedure requiring general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Semaglutide delays stomach emptying and has been associated with a risk of pulmonary aspiration during such procedures.
Liver
Tell your doctor if you have liver disease before using Rybelsus. A dose adjustment is generally not required for hepatic impairment, but experience in people with severe liver impairment is limited.
Alcohol
There is no specific direct alcohol interaction established with Rybelsus. However, alcohol can affect blood glucose control and may worsen symptoms such as nausea or vomiting. Ask your doctor about alcohol consumption during treatment.
Driving
Rybelsus does not usually affect the ability to drive. However, dizziness may occur, particularly during dose escalation. Low blood sugar may also occur when Rybelsus is used with insulin or a sulfonylurea. Do not drive if you develop symptoms that affect your concentration or alertness.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Rybelsus 7mg Tablet may include:
Nausea
Diarrhoea
Vomiting
Abdominal pain

Seek medical attention if you develop:
Severe or persistent abdominal pain, particularly if it spreads to the back, which may indicate pancreatitis.
Severe allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat or difficulty breathing.
Persistent vomiting or diarrhoea that may cause dehydration and affect kidney function.
Severe abdominal pain, fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes, which may indicate gallbladder disease.
