Introduction
Semalix 14 Tablet contains Semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is a prescription medicine and should be used along with diet and physical activity as advised by your doctor.
Semalix 14 Tablet is the highest available strength in the 3 mg, 7 mg and 14 mg oral Semaglutide range. It is generally used when additional blood sugar control is needed after treatment with the 7 mg strength.
Uses of Semalix 14 Tablet
Semalix 14 Tablet is used for:
Type 2 diabetes mellitus: It is used along with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
Additional glycaemic control: The 14 mg strength may be prescribed when additional blood sugar control is needed after treatment with 7 mg.
How Semalix 14 Tablet Works
Semalix 14 Tablet contains Semaglutide, which acts like the natural hormone GLP-1. It helps increase insulin release when blood glucose is high and reduces glucagon release.
Semaglutide also slows stomach emptying and increases feelings of fullness. Together, these effects help improve blood sugar control and can reduce food intake.
Interaction of Semalix 14 Tablet with Other Medicines
Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, supplements and herbal products you take.
Insulin and sulfonylureas: Can increase the risk of low blood sugar when used with Semalix.
Other oral medicines: Delayed stomach emptying may affect the absorption of some medicines taken by mouth.
Other Semaglutide-containing medicines: Do not use another Semaglutide medicine with Semalix unless specifically prescribed.
Other GLP-1 receptor agonists: Do not combine these with Semalix unless advised by your doctor.
Storage Conditions
Store Semalix 14 Tablet below 30°C.
Keep it in its original packaging and protect it from moisture.
Keep it out of the sight and reach of children.
How to Use
Take Semalix 14 Tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Take it once daily, first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
Swallow the tablet whole with a small amount of plain water. Do not split, crush or chew it.
Take it at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking any other oral medicine.
The 14 mg strength is generally considered when additional blood sugar control is needed after at least 30 days on 7 mg.
Do not take two 7 mg tablets to make a 14 mg dose.
Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice.
If you miss a dose, skip it and take the next dose on the following day. Do not take two doses together.
Safety Advice
Pregnancy
Semaglutide should generally be avoided during pregnancy. Treatment should generally be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.
Breast Feeding
Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with oral Semaglutide because the medicine and its formulation components may pass into breast milk and their effects on the breastfed infant are not fully established.
Lungs
Tell your doctor before surgery or procedures requiring general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Semaglutide delays stomach emptying and may increase the risk of aspiration.
Liver
No dose adjustment is generally recommended in people with hepatic impairment. Tell your doctor if you have liver disease.
Alcohol
Discuss alcohol use with your doctor. Alcohol may worsen gastrointestinal symptoms and dehydration and can affect blood sugar control, especially when used with other diabetes medicines.
Driving
Semalix does not usually directly affect driving ability. However, hypoglycaemia may occur when it is used with insulin or sulfonylureas. Avoid driving if you experience dizziness or symptoms of low blood sugar.
Side Effects
Common side effects:
Nausea
Abdominal pain
Diarrhoea
Decreased appetite
Vomiting
Constipation
Gastrointestinal side effects may be more noticeable at higher doses and often occur during dose escalation.
Serious side effects:
Pancreatitis: Severe or persistent abdominal pain, sometimes spreading to the back.
Severe gastrointestinal reactions: Persistent vomiting, diarrhoea or severe stomach-related symptoms.
Hypoglycaemia: Particularly when Semalix is used with insulin or sulfonylureas.
Acute kidney injury: May occur after significant dehydration caused by vomiting or diarrhoea.
Diabetic retinopathy complications: New or worsening vision changes.
Gallbladder problems: Severe abdominal pain, fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
