Introduction to Acovalovir Tablet

Acovalovir tablet is an Antiviral with an active ingredient called Valganciclovir. It belongs to the medication group known as Antiviral (Non-HIV) drugs. Valganciclovir is converted into Ganciclovir after entering the body, which acts to fight viral infections. It is used to treat Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections of the retina of the eye in adults with Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Cytomegalovirus infection often leads to vision problems and blindness. Additionally, it prevents Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections in patients who received an organ transplant from a person infected with CMV in adults and children.  

Do not take this drug if you are allergic to Valganciclovir, Ganciclovir, and its other ingredients. Inform your physician if you have a lower blood cell count ( WBC, RBC, Platelet). Notify your doctor if you took any radiotherapy or hemodialysis (a treatment to filter wastes and water from your blood) or conditions with your kidney. Inform your physician if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant. Use effective contraception during and even after the treatment; women should use contraception for 30 days, whereas men should use condoms for 90 days during and after the treatment. Discuss with your doctor for more fertility concerns. A dosage adjustment of Acovalovir tablet will be given if you have kidney conditions. Your doctor may regularly take the blood test to monitor the blood count while taking the tablet.

Therapeutic Effects of Acovalovir Tablet

Acovalovir tablet is an antiviral medication. After administration, liver enzymes rapidly convert the Acovalovir tablet into Ganciclovir. Ganciclovir prevents virus growth by inhibiting viral DNA synthesis.


Interaction of Acovalovir Tablet with other drugs

Inform your doctor about any prescribed medications, over-the-counter medicines, nutritional or vitamin supplements, and herbal products you take or have taken before the treatment. Certain medications may interact with Acovalovir tablet  and can cause undesirable side effects.

How to consume Acovalovir Tablet

Take the Acovalovir tablet as advised by your physician. Swallow the tablets whole and intact. This tablet should be taken with food. Do not crush, chew, or open the medicine. Your physician will decide the correct dosage and duration based on age, body weight, and disease condition. Only stop taking the medicine if your doctor advises you to stop.
