Introduction
Extensior 0.5mg Injection contains Semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is supplied as a prefilled pen and is used along with diet and exercise.
Uses of Extensior 0.5mg Injection
Extensior 0.5mg Injection is used for:
Type 2 diabetes mellitus: It helps improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
Cardiovascular risk reduction: Semaglutide may reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in certain adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease.
Kidney and cardiovascular risk reduction: It may also be used in appropriate adults with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease to reduce certain kidney and cardiovascular risks.
Extensior is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
How Extensior 0.5mg Injection Works
Extensior 0.5mg Injection contains Semaglutide, which activates GLP-1 receptors. This helps the body release more insulin when blood sugar is high and reduces glucagon release.
Semaglutide also slows stomach emptying and may reduce appetite and food intake.
Interaction of Extensior 0.5mg Injection with Other Medicines
Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements and herbal products you take.
Insulin or sulfonylureas: These may increase the risk of low blood sugar when used with Semaglutide.
Oral medicines: Delayed stomach emptying may affect the absorption of some medicines taken by mouth.
Other GLP-1 receptor agonists: Do not combine Extensior with another Semaglutide-containing medicine or GLP-1 receptor agonist unless prescribed.
Medicines requiring close monitoring: Tell your doctor about medicines for which blood levels or treatment effects need regular monitoring.
Storage Conditions
Store Extensior 0.5mg Injection at 2°C to 8°C in a refrigerator before use.
Do not freeze it.
Do not use the pen if it has been frozen.
Protect it from light.
Keep it out of reach of children.
Follow the pack instructions for storage after first use.
How to Use Extensior 0.5mg Injection
Use Extensior 0.5mg Injection exactly as prescribed.
It is injected under the skin once a week into the abdomen, thigh or upper arm. It can be administered with or without food.
The 0.5mg dose is commonly used after the initial 0.25mg treatment period. Your doctor may continue or increase the dose depending on your blood sugar control and tolerance.
Do not inject it into a vein or muscle. Use a new needle for each injection and never share the pen or needles.
Safety Advice
Pregnancy
Do not use Extensior during pregnancy. Semaglutide should generally be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.
Breast Feeding
Semaglutide should not be used while breastfeeding unless specifically advised by your doctor.
Lungs
Tell your doctor before surgery or a procedure requiring general anaesthesia or deep sedation because delayed stomach emptying may increase the risk of aspiration.
Liver
Tell your doctor if you have liver disease before starting Extensior.
Alcohol
Talk to your doctor about alcohol consumption. Alcohol may worsen nausea or vomiting and can affect blood sugar control, particularly when Extensior is used with other diabetes medicines.
Driving
Extensior does not usually affect the ability to drive. However, low blood sugar can occur when Semaglutide is used with insulin or sulfonylureas and may affect concentration and reaction time.
