Introduction
Mashema 5mg Cartridge 1ml contains Semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. It is a prescription medicine used for long-term weight management, Type 2 diabetes mellitus, reducing the risk of major cardiovascular events in certain adults with established heart disease who are overweight or obese, and non-cirrhotic non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) in adults with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis.
Mashema 5mg Cartridge 1ml is manufactured and marketed by Zydus Lifesciences Ltd. It contains Semaglutide 5 mg/mL and is supplied as a 1 mL multidose cartridge with five needles. The cartridge needs to be installed in the reusable Mashema customised pen for use. It should be used along with a suitable diet and regular physical activity as advised by the doctor.
Uses of Mashema 5mg Cartridge 1ml
Mashema 5mg Cartridge 1ml may be prescribed for:
Long-term weight management: It may be used in adults with obesity and in adults who are overweight with a weight-related medical condition. It is also used for long-term weight management in adolescents aged 12 years and older with obesity.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus: It may be used to help improve blood sugar control in people with Type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Cardiovascular risk reduction: It may be prescribed alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity to help lower the risk of major cardiovascular events, such as heart attack, stroke, or cardiovascular-related death, in adults with established heart disease who are overweight or obese.
Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH): It may be used in adults with non-cirrhotic NASH and moderate to advanced liver fibrosis.
Mashema should be used along with suitable dietary changes and regular physical activity. The dose is selected and adjusted by the doctor based on the individual's condition and treatment plan.
How Mashema 5mg Cartridge 1ml works
Semaglutide works similarly to the natural hormone GLP-1, which helps regulate blood sugar, appetite, and digestion. It activates GLP-1 receptors and enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion while reducing glucagon release.
It also slows gastric emptying and increases feelings of fullness. These effects can reduce hunger and food intake and may support weight management while helping improve blood sugar control.
Interactions of Mashema 5mg Cartridge 1ml with other medicines
Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements, and herbal products you are taking before starting Mashema 5mg Cartridge 1ml.
Insulin and sulfonylureas: Semaglutide may increase the risk of low blood sugar when used with insulin or medicines such as sulfonylureas. Your doctor may adjust the dose of these medicines.
Medicines taken by mouth: Semaglutide slows gastric emptying and may affect the absorption of some oral medicines.
Other Semaglutide-containing medicines: Do not combine Mashema with another Semaglutide-containing medicine unless advised by your doctor.
Other GLP-1 receptor agonists: Tell your doctor if you are using another GLP-1 receptor agonist before starting Mashema.
