Introduction
Poviztra 0.5mg FlexTouch contains Semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist used as part of weight-management treatment. It is supplied as a prefilled FlexTouch pen for once-weekly administration under the skin. The 0.5mg strength is used early in the gradual dose-escalation schedule after the starting dose.
Uses of Poviztra 0.5mg FlexTouch
Poviztra 0.5mg FlexTouch is used to:
Manage obesity: It is used with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for chronic weight management in adults with obesity.
Manage overweight with weight-related health conditions: It may be prescribed for adults with overweight who have at least one weight-related condition.
Support cardiovascular risk reduction: Semaglutide is indicated to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in eligible adults with established cardiovascular disease and obesity or overweight.
How Poviztra 0.5mg FlexTouch Works
Poviztra 0.5mg FlexTouch contains Semaglutide, which activates GLP-1 receptors involved in appetite and food intake.
It increases feelings of fullness and reduces hunger and food intake. Semaglutide also slows stomach emptying, supporting appetite control as part of a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
Interaction of Poviztra 0.5mg FlexTouch with Other Medicines
Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements you take.
Insulin or sulfonylureas: Using these medicines with Semaglutide may increase the risk of low blood sugar.
Other GLP-1 medicines or Semaglutide products: Do not combine Poviztra with another Semaglutide-containing medicine or GLP-1 receptor agonist unless prescribed.
Oral medicines: Semaglutide can delay stomach emptying and may affect the absorption of some medicines taken by mouth.
Storage Conditions
Store Poviztra 0.5mg FlexTouch in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C.
Do not freeze it or use it if frozen.
Keep the pen protected from light.
Keep it out of the sight and reach of children.
Follow the product packaging instructions for storage after first use.
How to Use
Poviztra 0.5mg FlexTouch is injected once a week under the skin of the abdomen, thigh or upper arm.
The 0.5mg strength is generally used after the 0.25mg starting dose. It is usually taken for at least four weeks before the dose is increased further, depending on your doctor's advice and how well you tolerate treatment.
Use the FlexTouch pen only after receiving proper instruction on the injection technique. Use a new needle for every injection and never share the pen.
If you miss a dose, follow the missed-dose instructions supplied with your product and prescription. Do not take two doses together.
Safety Advice
Pregnancy
Semaglutide should not be used during pregnancy. Treatment should generally be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.
Breast Feeding
Poviztra should not be used while breastfeeding. Discuss suitable alternatives with your doctor.
Lungs
Tell your doctor if you are scheduled for surgery or a procedure requiring general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Semaglutide delays stomach emptying and has been associated with a risk of pulmonary aspiration during such procedures.
Liver
Alcohol may worsen gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. Discuss alcohol use with your doctor.
Driving
Dizziness may occur during dose escalation. Low blood sugar may affect driving when Semaglutide is used with insulin or sulfonylureas.
