Introduction

Rybelsus 3mg Tablet contains Semaglutide, a medicine belonging to a group called GLP-1 receptor agonists. It is a prescription medicine used in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus to help improve blood sugar control along with diet and exercise.

Rybelsus 3mg Tablet is the initial strength used when starting oral Semaglutide treatment. It is taken once daily for the first month to help the body adjust to treatment before the dose is increased as prescribed by the doctor.

Uses of Rybelsus 3mg Tablet

Rybelsus 3mg Tablet is used for:

  • Starting treatment for type 2 diabetes mellitus: It is used as the initial strength when beginning treatment with oral Semaglutide.

  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus: Rybelsus is used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes, along with diet and exercise.

The 3mg strength is used for treatment initiation and is not intended to provide full glycaemic control. After the initial treatment period, the dose is generally increased to 7mg as directed by the doctor.

Rybelsus is not indicated for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis.

How Rybelsus 3mg Tablet Works

Rybelsus 3mg Tablet contains Semaglutide, which acts like GLP-1, a natural hormone involved in blood sugar regulation.

It helps the pancreas release insulin when blood glucose levels are high and reduces the release of glucagon, a hormone that raises blood glucose. Semaglutide also slows stomach emptying and can reduce appetite.

These effects form the basis of Semaglutide's blood glucose-lowering action in people with type 2 diabetes.

Interaction of Rybelsus 3mg Tablet with Other Medicines

Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, supplements and herbal products you take.

  • Insulin and sulfonylureas: Using Rybelsus with insulin or a sulfonylurea can increase the risk of low blood sugar. Your doctor may adjust the dose of these medicines.

  • Other oral medicines: Rybelsus can delay stomach emptying and may affect the absorption of medicines taken by mouth. Other oral medicines should generally be taken at least 30 minutes after Rybelsus.

  • Levothyroxine: Semaglutide may increase exposure to levothyroxine. Your doctor may monitor thyroid-related parameters if both medicines are used together.

  • Warfarin and other coumarin medicines: Closer monitoring of blood clotting may be needed when Semaglutide is started in people taking warfarin or similar medicines.

  • Other Semaglutide-containing medicines or GLP-1 receptor agonists: Do not use Rybelsus together with another Semaglutide-containing medicine or GLP-1 receptor agonist unless specifically prescribed by your doctor.

Storage Conditions

  • Store Rybelsus 3mg Tablet in its original blister packaging to protect it from light and moisture.

  • Store below 30°C.

  • Keep the tablets in a dry place.

  • Keep Rybelsus 3mg Tablet out of the sight and reach of children.

  • Do not use the tablets after the expiry date printed on the packaging.

How to Use

Take Rybelsus 3mg Tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

The 3mg strength is usually taken once daily for one month when starting treatment with oral Semaglutide. It is used as an initiation dose to help the body adjust to the medicine and is not intended to provide full glycaemic control.

Take Rybelsus after an overnight fasting period of at least 8 hours. Swallow the tablet whole with a small amount of plain water, up to half a glass (120 mL). Do not split, crush or chew the tablet.

After taking Rybelsus, wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking any other oral medicine. Taking food, other drinks or oral medicines sooner can reduce the absorption of Semaglutide.

After one month of treatment with 3mg, your doctor will generally increase the dose to 7mg. Do not increase the dose yourself.

If you miss a dose, skip it and take your next dose on the following day as usual. Do not take two tablets to make up for a missed dose.

Safety Advice

Pregnancy-Unsafe

Pregnancy

Unsafe

Rybelsus should not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant while taking Rybelsus or are planning a pregnancy, tell your doctor. Semaglutide should be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.

Breast Feeding-Unsafe

Breast Feeding

Unsafe

Rybelsus should not be used during breastfeeding because a risk to the breastfed infant cannot be excluded. Speak to your doctor before starting treatment if you are breastfeeding.

Lungs-Consult Your Doctor

Lungs

Consult Your Doctor

Tell your doctor if you are scheduled for surgery or a procedure requiring general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Semaglutide delays stomach emptying and has been associated with a risk of pulmonary aspiration during such procedures.

Liver-Consult Your Doctor

Liver

Consult Your Doctor

Tell your doctor if you have liver disease before using Rybelsus. A dose adjustment is generally not required for hepatic impairment, but experience in people with severe liver impairment is limited.

Alcohol-Consult Your Doctor

Alcohol

Consult Your Doctor

There is no specific direct alcohol interaction established with Rybelsus. However, alcohol can affect blood glucose control and may worsen symptoms such as nausea or vomiting. Ask your doctor about alcohol consumption during treatment.

Driving-Consult Your Doctor

Driving

Consult Your Doctor

Rybelsus does not usually affect the ability to drive. However, dizziness may occur, particularly during dose escalation. Low blood sugar may also occur when Rybelsus is used with insulin or a sulfonylurea. Do not drive if you develop symptoms that affect your concentration or alertness.

  • Nausea

  • Diarrhoea

  • Vomiting

  • Abdominal pain

  • Constipation

FAQs

Q1.

What is Rybelsus 3mg Tablet used for?

Rybelsus 3mg Tablet is the starting strength used when beginning oral Semaglutide treatment for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is taken along with diet and exercise and is followed by dose escalation as prescribed by the doctor.

Q2.

Is Rybelsus 3mg Tablet a full treatment dose?

No. The 3mg strength is used for treatment initiation and is not intended to provide full glycaemic control. The dose is generally increased to 7mg after one month, depending on your doctor's treatment plan.

Q3.

How long should I take Rybelsus 3mg Tablet?

Rybelsus 3mg Tablet is generally taken once daily for one month when starting treatment. Your doctor will then decide whether to increase the dose to 7mg.

Q4.

Can I continue taking Rybelsus 3mg Tablet if my blood sugar is controlled?

Do not decide on your own whether to continue or stop the 3mg strength. It is normally an initiation dose rather than a long-term maintenance dose, so follow the dose schedule prescribed by your doctor.

Q5.

How should I take Rybelsus 3mg Tablet?

Take one tablet once daily on an empty stomach after an overnight fast. Swallow it whole with up to half a glass of plain water and wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other oral medicines.
