Introduction
Extensior 1mg Injection contains Semaglutide, a medicine that belongs to a group of medicines called GLP-1 receptor agonists. It is supplied as a prefilled pen and is used as part of treatment for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Extensior 1mg Injection is used along with a healthy diet and regular physical activity.
Uses
Extensior 1mg Injection is used for:
Type 2 diabetes mellitus: It helps improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes when prescribed along with diet and exercise.
Cardiovascular risk reduction: It may reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in certain adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease.
Kidney and cardiovascular risk reduction: Semaglutide may also reduce the risk of kidney-related and cardiovascular complications in certain adults with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease.
Extensior is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
How Extensior 1mg Injection Works
Extensior 1mg Injection contains Semaglutide, which acts in a similar way to the natural hormone GLP-1. It activates GLP-1 receptors involved in blood sugar regulation and appetite control.
Semaglutide increases insulin release when blood sugar levels are high and reduces glucagon release. It also slows stomach emptying, which can help reduce food intake and may support weight reduction.
Interaction of Extensior 1mg Injection with Other Medicines
Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, supplements and herbal products you take.
Insulin or sulfonylureas: Using Semaglutide with insulin or sulfonylureas can increase the risk of low blood sugar. Your doctor may adjust the dose of these medicines.
Oral medicines: Semaglutide slows stomach emptying and may affect the absorption of some medicines taken by mouth.
Other GLP-1 receptor agonists: Do not use Extensior with another Semaglutide-containing medicine or another GLP-1 receptor agonist unless specifically prescribed.
Medicines requiring monitoring: Tell your doctor if you take medicines that require regular monitoring, as closer follow-up may sometimes be needed.
Storage Conditions
Store Extensior 1mg Injection in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C before use.
Do not freeze the medicine or store it close to the freezer compartment.
Do not use the medicine if it has been frozen.
Protect the pen from light.
Keep it out of the sight and reach of children.
Follow the product packaging for instructions about storage after first use.
How to Use
Use Extensior 1mg Injection exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Extensior 1mg is administered as a subcutaneous injection once a week. It can be injected into the abdomen, thigh or upper arm and may be used with or without food.
The 1mg dose is generally used after treatment has been started at a lower dose. Your doctor will decide when to increase the dose based on your blood sugar control and tolerance.
Do not inject Extensior into a vein or muscle. Use a new needle for each injection and do not share the pen or needles with another person.
Safety Advice
Pregnancy
Extensior should not be used during pregnancy. If you are planning a pregnancy, tell your doctor because Semaglutide should generally be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.
Breast Feeding
Semaglutide should not be used while breastfeeding unless specifically advised by your doctor.
Lungs
Tell your doctor if you are scheduled for surgery or a procedure requiring general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Semaglutide delays stomach emptying, which may increase the risk of aspiration during such procedures.
Liver
Tell your doctor if you have liver disease before using Extensior. Your doctor will decide whether it is appropriate for you.
Alcohol
Talk to your doctor about alcohol consumption. Alcohol may worsen nausea or vomiting and can affect blood sugar control, particularly when Extensior is used with other diabetes medicines.
Driving
Extensior does not usually affect the ability to drive. However, low blood sugar can occur when Semaglutide is used with insulin or sulfonylureas and may affect concentration and reaction time.
Side Effects
Common side effects include
Nausea
vomiting
diarrhoea
constipation
abdominal pain
decreased appetite
headache
dizziness.
Serious side effects:
Severe or persistent abdominal pain
Severe allergic reactions
Persistent vomiting or diarrhoea with dehydration
Gallstones or gallbladder inflammation
Sudden or worsening changes in vision
Low blood sugar when used with insulin or sulfonylureas
Seek medical attention if severe or persistent symptoms occur.
