Introduction
Mestrolyst 40mg Tablet contains Megestrol as its active substance and belongs to the class of medications called progestogens. Mestrolyst 40mg is used to treat certain hormone-dependent cancers, namely breast cancer, particularly in patients whose disease has progressed with conventional anti-estrogen therapy. Tab mestrolyst 40 mg is also indicated to treat unexplained weight loss, cachexia (weakness), and anorexia (loss of appetite) in patients with weak immune systems and cancer. As a synthetic form of the naturally occurring progesterone hormone, mestrolyst 40 works by influencing hormone-dependent cancer cell growth, and your physician will assess the estrogen receptor (ER) status to ensure that your breast cancer is due to the expression of the estrogen receptor before starting treatment. Inform your doctor of any history of kidney disease, liver disease, or allergic reactions before starting mestrolyst 40mg. Kidney function, liver function, blood pressure, and blood glucose levels should be monitored regularly during treatment. Avoid taking this medication if you are planning for pregnancy or are currently pregnant, as it may cause harmful effects on the developing baby. Do not stop this medication without proper advice from your doctor, as discontinuation may worsen the condition. Inform your doctor immediately if you experience swelling or pain in the limbs, shortness of breath, chest pain, severe headache, or changes in vision. How Mestrolyst 40mg Tablet works
Mestrolyst 40mg Tablet exhibits anticancer properties by interacting with steroidal receptors. It suppresses steroid production by the adrenal glands and androgen secretion by the ovaries in postmenopausal women. It also prevents the breakdown of cytokines and stimulates appetite in chronic disease-induced anorexia and cachexia.
