Introduction
Poviztra 1mg FlexTouch contains Semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist used as part of weight-management treatment. It is supplied as a prefilled FlexTouch pen for once-weekly administration under the skin. The 1mg strength is used during the gradual dose-escalation schedule.
Uses of Poviztra 1mg FlexTouch
Poviztra 1mg FlexTouch is used to:
Manage obesity: It is used with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for chronic weight management in adults with obesity.
Manage overweight with weight-related health conditions: It may be prescribed for adults with overweight who have at least one weight-related condition.
Support cardiovascular risk reduction: Semaglutide is indicated to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in eligible adults with established cardiovascular disease and obesity or overweight.
How Poviztra 1mg FlexTouch Works
Poviztra 1mg FlexTouch contains Semaglutide, which activates GLP-1 receptors involved in appetite regulation and food intake.
It helps increase fullness, reduce hunger and lower food intake. It also slows stomach emptying, which can contribute to appetite control and weight management when combined with diet and physical activity.
Interaction of Poviztra 1mg FlexTouch with Other Medicines
Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements you take.
Insulin or sulfonylureas: These medicines can increase the risk of low blood sugar when used with Semaglutide.
Other GLP-1 medicines or Semaglutide products: Do not use Poviztra with another Semaglutide-containing medicine or GLP-1 receptor agonist unless specifically prescribed.
Oral medicines: Semaglutide may delay stomach emptying and can affect the absorption of some oral medicines.
Storage Conditions
Store Poviztra 1mg FlexTouch in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C.
Do not freeze it or use it if frozen.
Protect the pen from light.
Keep it out of the sight and reach of children.
Follow the packaging instructions for storage after first use.
How to Use
Poviztra 1mg FlexTouch is administered once a week by injection under the skin of the abdomen, thigh or upper arm.
The 1mg strength forms part of the gradual dose-escalation schedule. Your doctor will decide when to increase the dose based on your response and how well you tolerate treatment.
Use the FlexTouch pen only after you have been shown how to inject it correctly. Use a new needle for each injection and do not share the pen.
If you miss a dose, follow the missed-dose instructions supplied with your product and prescription. Do not take two doses together.
Safety Advice
Pregnancy
Semaglutide should not be used during pregnancy. Treatment should generally be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.
Breast Feeding
Poviztra should not be used during breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor about suitable alternatives.
Lungs
Tell your doctor if you are scheduled for surgery or a procedure requiring general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Semaglutide delays stomach emptying and has been associated with a risk of pulmonary aspiration during such procedures.
Liver
Inform your doctor if you have liver disease before using Poviztra.
Alcohol
Alcohol may worsen gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. Discuss alcohol use with your doctor.
Driving
Poviztra does not usually directly affect driving. However, dizziness may occur during dose escalation. Low blood sugar can also affect driving when Semaglutide is combined with insulin or sulfonylureas.
Side Effects
Common side effects:
