Introduction
Semaglu 2 Injection contains Semaglutide and is supplied as a pre-filled injection pen containing 8 mg of Semaglutide in 3 mL. It is a prescription medicine used for type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic weight management. Mankind Pharma launched Semaglu as its Semaglutide injection brand in India.
The 8 mg amount refers to the total amount of Semaglutide in the pen and should not be interpreted as an 8 mg weekly dose.
Uses
Semaglu 2 Injection is used:
To improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, along with diet and exercise.
For chronic weight management in eligible adults with obesity or overweight with a weight-related health condition, along with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
How Semaglu 2 Injection Works
Semaglu contains Semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It helps increase insulin release when blood sugar is high and reduces glucagon release.
It also slows stomach emptying and increases fullness, which can help reduce food intake and support weight management.
Interaction of Semaglu 2 Injection with Other Medicines
Tell your doctor about all medicines, vitamins and supplements you take.
Insulin and sulfonylureas: May increase the risk of low blood sugar.
Oral medicines: Delayed stomach emptying may affect the absorption of some oral medicines.
Other Semaglutide or GLP-1 medicines: Do not combine them unless prescribed by your doctor.
Storage Conditions
Store Semaglu 2 Injection according to the product instructions.
Refrigerate at 2°C to 8°C before use unless otherwise specified.
Do not freeze.
Protect from light.
Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
How to Use
Use Semaglu 2 Injection exactly as prescribed. It is generally administered once weekly as a subcutaneous injection into the abdomen, thigh or upper arm.
Treatment with Semaglutide is generally started at a lower dose and increased gradually. Do not change the dose or weekly schedule without medical advice.
Use a new needle for each injection and do not share the pen with another person.
Safety Advice
Pregnancy
Semaglutide should not be used for weight management during pregnancy. It should generally be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.
Breast Feeding
Semaglutide should not be used while breastfeeding because its safety for the breastfed baby has not been established.
Lungs
Semaglutide delays stomach emptying and may increase the risk of aspiration during general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Inform your doctor before planned procedures.
Liver
Tell your doctor if you have liver disease before starting the medication
Alcohol
Discuss alcohol consumption with your doctor, particularly if you take other blood glucose-lowering medicines.
Driving
Dizziness or low blood sugar may affect your ability to drive, particularly when Semaglutide is used with insulin or sulfonylureas.
