Introduction
Semasize 1mg Pen Injection contains Semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. It is supplied as a multi-dose disposable pen containing Semaglutide 4 mg/3 mL, equivalent to 1.34 mg/mL. Each pen provides four doses of 1 mg for once-weekly subcutaneous use.
Semaglutide may be prescribed along with diet and exercise for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic weight management. The appropriate strength and duration of treatment depend on your medical condition and your doctor's advice.
Uses of Semasize 1mg Pen Injection
Semasize 1mg Pen Injection may be prescribed for:
Type 2 diabetes mellitus: Semaglutide may be used along with diet and exercise to improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
Chronic weight management: It may be prescribed along with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity in eligible adults who need long-term weight management.
Do not start or change the dose without medical advice.
How Semasize 1mg Pen Injection works
Semaglutide acts similarly to a naturally occurring hormone called GLP-1. It helps the pancreas release insulin when blood glucose levels are elevated and reduces the release of glucagon, which helps lower blood glucose.
It also slows the movement of food through the stomach and acts on areas of the brain involved in appetite regulation. These effects can increase fullness and reduce food intake, which may support weight loss when used with diet and physical activity.
Interactions of Semasize 1mg Pen Injection with other medicines
Tell your doctor about all medicines you take before starting Semasize 1mg Pen Injection.
Insulin and sulfonylureas: Using Semaglutide with these medicines may increase the risk of low blood sugar. Your doctor may adjust their dose.
Medicines taken by mouth: Semaglutide can delay gastric emptying and may affect the absorption of some oral medicines.
Other GLP-1 receptor agonists: Do not use Semaglutide with another Semaglutide-containing medicine or another GLP-1 receptor agonist unless specifically advised by your doctor.
Other diabetes medicines: Tell your doctor about all diabetes medicines you use so your treatment can be adjusted safely.
Storage Conditions
Store the unopened pen in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C.
Do not freeze.
Keep the pen away from direct light.
Keep out of reach of children.
Follow the storage instructions printed on the product packaging after first use.
How to Use
Semasize 1mg Pen Injection is given under the skin once a week, exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It can be injected into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Rotate injection sites when possible.
The product is supplied as a multi-dose disposable pen. The pack contains one pen, four needles, and four alcohol swabs. One pen provides four doses of 1 mg.
Your doctor or healthcare professional should show you how to use the pen before you administer your first dose. Do not share the pen or needles with another person, even if the needle has been changed.
Safety Advice
Pregnancy
Semaglutide should not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant while using it, contact your doctor promptly. Women planning pregnancy should discuss treatment with their doctor beforehand.
Breast Feeding
Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding before using Semasize 1mg Pen Injection. Your doctor will decide whether treatment should be continued based on your individual circumstances.
Lungs
No specific lung-related precautions are established for routine use. Tell your doctor if you have a significant respiratory condition or develop severe or unusual breathing symptoms during treatment.
Liver
Tell your doctor if you have liver disease before starting treatment. Your doctor may consider your liver condition when deciding whether Semaglutide is appropriate for you.
Alcohol
Alcohol may affect blood glucose control and can worsen some gastrointestinal symptoms. If you have diabetes, discuss alcohol consumption with your doctor, particularly if you also use insulin or medicines that can cause low blood sugar.
Driving
Semaglutide itself does not usually affect the ability to drive. However, dizziness or low blood sugar can occur, particularly when Semaglutide is used with insulin or a sulfonylurea. Do not drive if you experience symptoms that affect your concentration or alertness.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Semasize 1mg Pen Injection include:
Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhoea
Constipation
Abdominal pain
Decreased appetite
Indigestion
Headache
Fatigue
These effects are more likely when treatment is started or the dose is increased and may improve as your body adjusts.
Seek medical attention if you develop severe or persistent abdominal pain, especially if it spreads to the back, as this may indicate pancreatitis. People with diabetes who have a history of diabetic retinopathy should also be monitored for worsening eye-related complications.
Expert Tips
Use Semasize 1mg Pen Injection once weekly on the same day, unless your doctor changes the schedule.
Follow the prescribed dose. Do not increase the dose to achieve faster weight loss or better blood sugar control.
Eat smaller meals and avoid eating too quickly if nausea or fullness occurs.
Drink enough fluids, especially if vomiting or diarrhoea occurs.
Follow a balanced diet and remain physically active as advised by your healthcare professional.
Tell your doctor if you have a history of pancreatitis, diabetic retinopathy, gallbladder problems, or severe gastrointestinal disease.
If you are using insulin or a sulfonylurea, know the symptoms of low blood sugar and follow your doctor's advice on monitoring.
Never share your pen or needles.
