Introduction
Wyntide 1mg Pen Injection contains semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. It is used along with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The product is also listed in India for chronic weight management in eligible adults when used with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
Each prefilled pen contains 4 mg of semaglutide in 3 mL and delivers four doses of 1 mg. The product is marketed by Corona Remedies Limited and manufactured in India by MSN Laboratories Private Limited. The 1mg dose is generally reached after treatment has been started at a lower dose and increased gradually according to the prescribed treatment schedule.
Uses of Wyntide 1mg Pen Injection
Wyntide 1mg Pen Injection may be used:
To improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
As an adjunct to diet and exercise when blood sugar remains insufficiently controlled.
For chronic weight management in eligible adults with obesity or overweight with at least one weight-related health condition, along with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
The indication for which Wyntide is prescribed should be determined by your doctor based on your medical condition and treatment needs.
How Wyntide 1mg Pen Injection works
Semaglutide acts like GLP-1, a hormone involved in blood glucose regulation and appetite control. It increases insulin release when blood glucose levels are elevated and reduces glucagon secretion. This helps the body regulate blood glucose more effectively.
Semaglutide also slows gastric emptying and can increase feelings of fullness. These effects can reduce food intake and support weight management in people using semaglutide for this purpose.
Interactions of Wyntide 1mg Pen Injection with other medicines
Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take before using Wyntide.
Insulin and sulfonylureas: Using semaglutide with these medicines can increase the risk of hypoglycaemia. Your doctor may need to adjust their dose.
Other semaglutide-containing medicines: Wyntide should not be used together with another medicine containing semaglutide.
Other GLP-1 receptor agonists: Combining Wyntide with another GLP-1 receptor agonist is not recommended.
Oral medicines: Semaglutide slows gastric emptying and may affect the absorption of some medicines taken by mouth.
Storage Conditions
Store Wyntide 1mg Pen Injection in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C.
Do not freeze the pen.
Keep it away from the cooling element of the refrigerator.
Keep the pen protected from light.
Keep it out of the reach of children.
Do not use the medicine if it has been frozen or if the solution is cloudy, coloured or contains particles.
How to Use
Wyntide 1mg Pen Injection is administered under the skin once a week. It can be injected into the abdomen, thigh or upper arm and can be used at any time of day, with or without food. Try to use it on the same day each week.
Treatment with semaglutide is generally started at a lower dose and increased gradually. The 1mg dose is used after the initial treatment stages when prescribed by the doctor. Do not start at 1mg or change your dose without medical advice.
Before each injection, check the solution through the pen window. It should be clear and colourless. Follow the instructions provided with the pen for attaching and removing the needle.
Safety Advice
Pregnancy
Wyntide should not be used during pregnancy. If you are planning a pregnancy, speak to your doctor about stopping treatment. Semaglutide should generally be discontinued at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.
Breast Feeding
Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding before using Wyntide. Your doctor will decide whether treatment is appropriate based on your individual circumstances.
Lungs
Tell your doctor if you are scheduled for surgery or a procedure requiring general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Semaglutide delays gastric emptying, which may increase the risk of stomach contents entering the lungs during such procedures.
Liver
Tell your doctor if you have liver disease before starting Wyntide. Your doctor will assess whether the medicine is suitable for you.
Alcohol
Avoid excessive alcohol consumption while using Wyntide. Alcohol can affect blood glucose control and may worsen gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting.
Driving
Wyntide does not usually affect your ability to drive. However, hypoglycaemia can occur when semaglutide is used with insulin or sulfonylureas. If you experience dizziness, sweating, weakness or confusion, avoid driving until your blood glucose has returned to a safe level.
Side Effects
The most common side effects of Wyntide include:
Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhoea
Constipation
Abdominal pain
These effects are particularly common when treatment is started or the dose is increased and may become less troublesome as your body adjusts to the medicine.
Contact your doctor if you develop severe or persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, symptoms of dehydration or changes in vision. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop symptoms of a serious allergic reaction.
