Introduction
Alterme 15mg Cartridge 3ml contains Semaglutide as its active ingredient. It is a prescription Semaglutide injection supplied in a 15 mg/3 mL prefilled cartridge for use with a reusable pen. Zydus markets this Semaglutide formulation for type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity-related weight management.
The 15 mg strength represents the total amount of Semaglutide in the cartridge. It is not the amount administered as one weekly dose.
Uses
Alterme 15mg Cartridge 3ml is used:
To improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, along with diet and exercise.
For chronic weight management in eligible adults with obesity or overweight with a weight-related health condition, along with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
How Alterme 15mg Cartridge 3ml Works
Alterme contains Semaglutide, which is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It helps regulate blood sugar by increasing insulin release when blood glucose is elevated and reducing glucagon release.
Semaglutide also slows stomach emptying and increases feelings of fullness. These effects can help reduce food intake and support weight management.
Interaction of Alterme 15mg Cartridge 3ml with Other Medicines
Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements you take.
Insulin and sulfonylureas: May increase the risk of low blood sugar when used with Semaglutide.
Oral medicines: Delayed stomach emptying may affect the absorption of some medicines taken by mouth.
Other GLP-1 receptor agonists or Semaglutide medicines: Do not combine them unless specifically prescribed by your doctor.
Storage Conditions
Store Alterme according to the instructions supplied with the product.
Keep it refrigerated at 2°C to 8°C before use unless the product information specifies otherwise.
Do not freeze.
Protect from excessive heat and light.
Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
How to Use
Alterme is generally administered once weekly by subcutaneous injection using its compatible reusable pen. It can be injected into the abdomen, thigh or upper arm.
The dose is selected according to your doctor's treatment plan. Semaglutide treatment is generally started at a lower dose and increased gradually depending on response and tolerability. Do not change your dose yourself.
Use a new needle for every injection and do not share the pen with another person.
Safety Advice
Pregnancy
Do not use Alterme for weight management during pregnancy. If you are planning a pregnancy, Semaglutide should generally be stopped at least 2 months beforehand.
Breast Feeding
Semaglutide should not be used while breastfeeding because its safety for the breastfed baby has not been established.
Lungs
Semaglutide can delay stomach emptying and may increase the risk of aspiration during general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Inform your healthcare team before surgery or procedures.
Liver
Tell your doctor if you have liver disease before using Alterme.
Alcohol
Discuss alcohol use with your doctor, particularly if you use other medicines that can lower blood sugar.
Driving
Dizziness or low blood sugar may affect alertness, particularly when Semaglutide is used with insulin or sulfonylureas.
