Introduction
Semaglyn 15mg Cartridge 3ml contains Semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist used for type 2 diabetes and chronic weight management in eligible adults. It contains 15mg of semaglutide in 3mL and is supplied as a prefilled cartridge designed for use with a reusable pen device. Zydus states that its semaglutide injection was approved in India for both type 2 diabetes and obesity indications.
The 15mg quantity is the total amount of semaglutide in the cartridge. It does not mean that 15mg should be administered as a single dose.
Uses of Semaglyn 15mg Cartridge 3ml
Semaglyn 15mg Cartridge 3ml is used to:
Manage type 2 diabetes mellitus: It helps improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes when prescribed as part of an appropriate treatment plan.
Support chronic weight management: Semaglutide may be prescribed for eligible adults with obesity or overweight with a weight-related health condition, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
Semaglutide is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
How Semaglyn 15mg Cartridge 3ml Works
Semaglyn contains Semaglutide, which acts like the natural hormone GLP-1. It activates GLP-1 receptors involved in blood sugar regulation and appetite.
Semaglutide increases insulin release when blood glucose is high and reduces glucagon release. It also delays stomach emptying and increases feelings of fullness, which can help reduce food intake and support weight management.
Interaction of Semaglyn 15mg Cartridge 3ml with Other Medicines
Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, supplements and herbal products you take.
Insulin or sulfonylureas: These medicines can increase the risk of low blood sugar when used with Semaglutide.
Oral medicines: Delayed stomach emptying may affect the rate at which some medicines taken by mouth are absorbed.
Other GLP-1 receptor agonists: Do not combine Semaglyn with another semaglutide-containing medicine or another GLP-1 receptor agonist unless specifically prescribed.
Warfarin or similar anticoagulants: Your doctor may recommend closer INR monitoring when Semaglutide treatment is started.
Storage Conditions
Store the Semaglyn cartridge in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C before use.
Do not freeze.
Do not use the cartridge if it has been frozen.
Protect it from light.
Keep the cartridge and reusable pen out of the reach of children.
Follow the product instructions for storage after the cartridge is placed in the reusable pen.
How to Use
Use Semaglyn 15mg Cartridge 3ml exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
The cartridge is designed for use with the reusable Semaglyn pen device. The pen allows the prescribed dose to be selected from the cartridge rather than treating the full 15mg cartridge content as a single dose.
Semaglutide is generally administered once weekly, on the same day each week, at any time of the day, with or without food. It is injected under the skin of the abdomen, thigh or upper arm.
Treatment is usually started at a lower dose and increased gradually according to your doctor's instructions. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice.
Use the reusable pen and cartridge only as instructed. Use a new needle for each injection and do not share the pen or needles with another person.
Safety Advice
Pregnancy
Semaglyn should not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant or plan to become pregnant, tell your doctor. Semaglutide should generally be discontinued at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.
Breast Feeding
Semaglutide should not be used while breastfeeding unless specifically advised by your doctor.
Lungs
Tell your doctor if you are scheduled for surgery or a procedure requiring general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Semaglutide delays stomach emptying, which may increase the risk of aspiration during these procedures.
Liver
Tell your doctor if you have liver disease before using Semaglyn. Your doctor will decide whether it is appropriate for you.
Alcohol
Talk to your doctor about alcohol consumption while using Semaglyn. Alcohol may worsen nausea and vomiting and may affect blood sugar control.
Driving
Semaglyn does not usually affect driving. However, low blood sugar may occur when Semaglutide is used with insulin or sulfonylureas. Avoid driving if you experience hypoglycaemia, dizziness or reduced alertness.
