Introduction
Extensior 0.25mg Injection contains Semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist used in the treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is supplied as a prefilled pen and the 0.25mg dose is generally used when starting Semaglutide treatment.
Uses of Extensior 0.25mg Injection
Extensior 0.25mg Injection is used as the initial dose of Semaglutide treatment in adults with type 2 diabetes. It helps the body adjust to treatment before the dose is increased.
Semaglutide is used along with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control. The 0.25mg dose is not generally intended to provide the full long-term blood sugar-lowering effect.
How Extensior 0.25mg Injection Works
Extensior 0.25mg Injection contains Semaglutide, which activates GLP-1 receptors. It helps increase insulin release when blood sugar levels are high and reduces glucagon release.
It also slows stomach emptying and can reduce appetite and food intake.
Interaction of Extensior 0.25mg Injection with Other Medicines
Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements and herbal products you take.
Insulin or sulfonylureas: The risk of low blood sugar may increase when these are used with Semaglutide.
Oral medicines: Delayed stomach emptying may affect the absorption of some oral medicines.
Other GLP-1 receptor agonists: Do not combine Extensior with another Semaglutide-containing medicine or GLP-1 receptor agonist unless prescribed.
Medicines requiring monitoring: Tell your doctor about medicines that require regular monitoring.
Storage Conditions
Store Extensior 0.25mg Injection in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C before use.
Do not freeze.
Do not use if the pen has been frozen.
Protect from light.
Keep out of reach of children.
Follow the packaging for storage instructions after first use.
How to Use
Use Extensior 0.25mg Injection exactly as prescribed.
The 0.25mg dose is generally injected under the skin once weekly for the first 4 weeks. It can be injected into the abdomen, thigh or upper arm, with or without food.
Your doctor will decide when to increase the dose. Do not increase the dose yourself.
Safety Advice
Pregnancy
Do not use Extensior during pregnancy. Semaglutide should generally be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.
Breast Feeding
Semaglutide should not be used while breastfeeding unless specifically advised by your doctor.
Lungs
Tell your doctor if you are scheduled for surgery or a procedure requiring general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Semaglutide delays stomach emptying, which may increase the risk of aspiration during such procedures.
Liver
Tell your doctor if you have liver disease before using Extensior. Your doctor will decide whether it is appropriate for you.
Alcohol
Talk to your doctor about alcohol consumption. Alcohol may worsen nausea or vomiting and can affect blood sugar control, particularly when Extensior is used with other diabetes medicines.
Driving
Extensior does not usually affect the ability to drive. However, low blood sugar can occur when Semaglutide is used with insulin or sulfonylureas and may affect concentration and reaction time.
Side Effects
Common side effects include
Nausea
vomiting
diarrhoea
constipation
abdominal pain
decreased appetite
headache
dizziness.
Serious side effects:
Severe or persistent abdominal pain
Severe allergic reactions
Persistent vomiting or diarrhoea with dehydration
Gallstones or gallbladder inflammation

Low blood sugar when used with insulin or sulfonylureas
Seek medical attention if severe or persistent symptoms occur.
