Introduction
Hepaglide 0.25mg Injection contains Semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. It is supplied as a multi-dose disposable pen containing Semaglutide 1 mg/1.5 mL (0.68 mg/mL). The pen is designed to deliver a 0.25 mg dose and is intended for once-weekly subcutaneous use.
The pack contains one multi-dose disposable pen, four needles, and four alcohol swabs. The pen contains a total of 1 mg of Semaglutide and is intended to provide four 0.25 mg doses. Semaglutide is approved in India for type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic weight management as an adjunct to diet and exercise. It is a prescription medicine and should be used under medical supervision.
Uses of Hepaglide 0.25mg Injection
Hepaglide 0.25mg Injection may be prescribed for:
Type 2 diabetes mellitus: Semaglutide may be used along with diet and exercise to help improve blood glucose control.
Chronic weight management: Semaglutide may be prescribed along with diet and physical activity as part of a long-term weight management plan.
The dose is selected and adjusted by the doctor based on the individual's condition, response to treatment, and treatment goals. The 0.25 mg dose is generally used as the starting dose during dose escalation. Do not change the dose without medical advice.
How Hepaglide 0.25mg Injection works
Semaglutide works in a similar way to the natural hormone GLP-1. It increases insulin release when blood glucose levels are high and reduces glucagon release, which helps lower blood glucose levels.
It also slows stomach emptying and acts on areas of the brain involved in appetite regulation. This can increase feelings of fullness and reduce food intake, which can support weight management when combined with a suitable diet and physical activity.
Interactions of Hepaglide 0.25mg Injection with other medicines
Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements, and herbal products you are taking before starting Hepaglide 0.25mg Injection.
Insulin and sulfonylureas: Using Semaglutide with insulin or medicines such as sulfonylureas can increase the risk of low blood sugar. Your doctor may adjust the dose of these medicines.
Other diabetes medicines: Tell your doctor about all medicines used to control blood glucose so that your treatment can be monitored safely.
Medicines taken by mouth: Semaglutide can slow stomach emptying and may affect the absorption of some oral medicines.
Other GLP-1 receptor agonists: Do not use Hepaglide with another Semaglutide-containing medicine or another GLP-1 receptor agonist unless your doctor specifically advises you to do so.
Storage Conditions
Store the unopened pen in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C.
Do not freeze.
Protect the pen from light.
Keep out of reach of children.
After the first dose, the pack states that the pen may be stored at a temperature not exceeding 30°C or in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C.
After first use, the pen should be used for a maximum of 4 weeks.
Do not store the pen with the needle attached.
Discard the pen after the maximum recommended period after first use.
How to Use
Hepaglide 0.25mg Injection is given as a subcutaneous injection once weekly, exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It can be injected into areas such as the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Rotate the injection site when possible.
The product is supplied as a multi-dose disposable pen designed to deliver a 0.25 mg dose. Your doctor or healthcare professional should show you how to use the pen before your first injection.
Use a new needle for each injection. Do not share the pen or needles with another person, even if the needle is changed.
Safety Advice
Pregnancy
Semaglutide should not be used during pregnancy unless specifically advised by a doctor. If you become pregnant while using Hepaglide, contact your doctor promptly. Women planning a pregnancy should discuss Semaglutide treatment with their doctor beforehand. Semaglutide should generally be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy because it remains in the body for a prolonged period.
Breast Feeding
Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding before using Hepaglide 0.25mg Injection. Your doctor will decide whether treatment is appropriate based on your individual circumstances.
Lungs
Semaglutide does not have specific routine lung-related precautions. Tell your doctor about any significant respiratory condition and inform your healthcare team if you are scheduled for surgery or a procedure requiring general anaesthesia or deep sedation.
Liver
Tell your doctor if you have liver disease before starting Hepaglide 0.25mg Injection. Your doctor will decide whether you need additional monitoring or treatment adjustments.
Alcohol
Alcohol can affect blood glucose control and may worsen gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or vomiting. If you have diabetes, discuss alcohol consumption with your doctor, particularly if you also use insulin or medicines that can cause low blood sugar.
Driving
Hepaglide does not usually affect the ability to drive. However, dizziness or low blood sugar may occur, particularly when Semaglutide is used with insulin or a sulfonylurea. Do not drive if you experience symptoms that affect your concentration or alertness.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Hepaglide 0.25mg Injection may include:
Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhoea
Constipation
Abdominal pain
Decreased appetite
Indigestion
Headache
Fatigue
These effects are more common when treatment starts or the dose increases and may improve as the body adjusts.
Seek medical attention if you develop severe or persistent abdominal pain, especially if it spreads to the back, as this may be a sign of pancreatitis. People with diabetes who have a history of diabetic retinopathy should also be monitored for changes in their eye condition.
