Introduction
Ozempic 0.25mg Injection contains Semaglutide, a medicine that belongs to a group of medicines called GLP-1 receptor agonists. Semaglutide is used as part of treatment for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus to help improve blood sugar control. Ozempic 0.25mg Injection contains Semaglutide 2 mg in 1.5 mL solution and is supplied as a prefilled pen. It is used along with diet and physical activity when prescribed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Uses of Ozempic 0.25mg Injection
Ozempic 0.25mg Injection is used to:
Manage type 2 diabetes: Semaglutide may be prescribed to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus along with diet and physical activity.
Improve blood sugar control: It helps lower blood glucose levels by increasing insulin release when blood sugar levels are high and reducing the release of glucagon.
Support diabetes management: Semaglutide can help improve blood sugar levels as part of a treatment plan that includes a suitable diet and physical activity.
Ozempic is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
How Ozempic 0.25mg Injection Works
Ozempic 0.25mg Injection contains Semaglutide, which acts in a similar way to the natural hormone GLP-1. It activates GLP-1 receptors and helps regulate blood sugar levels.
Semaglutide increases insulin release when blood sugar levels are high and reduces the release of glucagon, a hormone that can raise blood sugar. It also slows stomach emptying and can increase feelings of fullness. These effects help improve blood sugar control and may reduce food intake.
Interaction of Ozempic 0.25mg Injection with Other Medicines
Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements and herbal products you are taking before starting Ozempic.
Insulin or sulfonylureas: Using Semaglutide with insulin or sulfonylureas can increase the risk of low blood sugar. Your doctor may adjust the dose of these medicines.
Oral medicines: Semaglutide slows stomach emptying and may affect how quickly some medicines taken by mouth are absorbed. Tell your doctor if you take medicines that require close monitoring.
Other GLP-1 receptor agonists: Do not use Ozempic with another Semaglutide-containing medicine or another GLP-1 receptor agonist unless specifically prescribed by your doctor.
Warfarin and other medicines requiring monitoring: Tell your doctor if you take medicines that require regular monitoring, as your treatment may need closer follow-up.
Storage Conditions
Store Ozempic 0.25mg Injection in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C before use.
Do not freeze the medicine or store it close to the freezer compartment.
Do not use the medicine if it has been frozen.
Protect the pen from light and keep it out of the reach of children.
Follow the storage instructions printed on the product packaging for any additional instructions about the pen after first use.
How to Use Ozempic 0.25mg Injection
Use Ozempic 0.25mg Injection exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
The 0.25mg dose is used as the starting dose of Ozempic treatment. It is injected under the skin once a week. The injection can be given in the abdomen, thigh or upper arm and can be used at any time of the day, with or without food.
Your doctor may increase the dose after the starting period depending on your blood sugar control and how well you tolerate the medicine. Do not change the dose yourself.
Do not inject Ozempic into a vein or muscle. Your doctor or nurse should show you the correct injection technique before you use the pen yourself. Use a new needle for each injection and do not share your pen or needles with another person.
Safety Advice
Pregnancy
Ozempic should not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant while using Semaglutide or are planning to become pregnant, tell your doctor. Semaglutide should be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.
Breast Feeding
Semaglutide should not be used while breastfeeding unless specifically advised by your doctor. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding before starting Ozempic.
Lungs
Tell your doctor if you are scheduled to undergo surgery involving general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Semaglutide delays stomach emptying, which may increase the risk of aspiration during these procedures.
Liver
Tell your doctor if you have liver disease before using Ozempic. Your doctor will decide whether the medicine is suitable for you based on your condition.
Alcohol
Tell your doctor if you have liver disease before using Ozempic. Your doctor will decide whether the medicine is suitable for you based on your condition.
Driving
Ozempic does not usually affect the ability to drive. However, low blood sugar can occur, particularly when Semaglutide is used with insulin or sulfonylureas. Low blood sugar can affect concentration and reaction time. Do not drive if you develop symptoms of hypoglycaemia.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Ozempic may include:
