Introduction
Poviztra 0.25mg FlexTouch contains Semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist used as part of weight-management treatment. It is supplied as a prefilled FlexTouch pen for once-weekly administration under the skin. The 0.25mg strength is the starting dose used to help the body adjust to treatment.
Uses of Poviztra 0.25mg FlexTouch
Poviztra 0.25mg FlexTouch is used to:
Manage obesity: It is used with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for chronic weight management in adults with obesity.
Manage overweight with weight-related health conditions: It may be prescribed for adults with overweight who have at least one weight-related condition.
Support cardiovascular risk reduction: Semaglutide is indicated to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in eligible adults with established cardiovascular disease and obesity or overweight.
How Poviztra 0.25mg FlexTouch Works
Poviztra 0.25mg FlexTouch contains Semaglutide, which activates GLP-1 receptors involved in appetite and food intake regulation.
It helps increase fullness and reduce hunger and food intake. It also slows stomach emptying, which can support appetite control when used with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
Interaction of Poviztra 0.25mg FlexTouch with Other Medicines
Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements you take.
Insulin or sulfonylureas: Using Semaglutide with these medicines may increase the risk of low blood sugar.
Other GLP-1 medicines or Semaglutide products: Do not use Poviztra with another Semaglutide-containing medicine or GLP-1 receptor agonist unless prescribed.
Oral medicines: Semaglutide can delay stomach emptying and may affect the absorption of some medicines taken by mouth.
Storage Conditions
Store Poviztra 0.25mg FlexTouch in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C.
Do not freeze it or use it if it has been frozen.
Keep the pen protected from light.
Keep it out of the sight and reach of children.
Follow the product packaging instructions for storage after first use.
How to Use
Poviztra 0.25mg FlexTouch is injected once a week under the skin of the abdomen, thigh or upper arm.
The 0.25mg strength is the starting dose and is generally used for the first four weeks. It is not the usual maintenance dose. The dose is then increased gradually according to your doctor's instructions and how well you tolerate treatment.
Use the FlexTouch pen only after receiving proper instruction on the injection technique. Use a new needle for each injection and do not share the pen.
If you miss a dose, follow the missed-dose instructions supplied with your product and prescription. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.
Safety Advice
Pregnancy
Semaglutide should not be used during pregnancy. Treatment should generally be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.
Breast Feeding
Poviztra should not be used while breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor about suitable alternatives.
Lungs
Tell your doctor if you are scheduled for surgery or a procedure requiring general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Semaglutide delays stomach emptying and has been associated with a risk of pulmonary aspiration during such procedures.
Liver
Inform your doctor if you have liver disease before starting Poviztra.
Alcohol
Alcohol may worsen gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. Discuss alcohol use with your doctor.
Driving
Dizziness may occur during dose escalation. Low blood sugar can affect driving when Semaglutide is used with insulin or sulfonylureas.
