Semabrex 2 mg/1.5 mL may be used for:

• Improving blood glucose control in adults with insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus

• Type 2 diabetes mellitus when metformin is inappropriate because of intolerance or contraindications

• Type 2 diabetes mellitus in combination with other medicines used to treat diabetes

• Managing type 2 diabetes along with appropriate diet and exercise

The doctor decides the appropriate dose and duration of treatment.

Semabrex contains semaglutide, which mimics the action of GLP-1, a hormone involved in blood glucose regulation.

It increases insulin release when blood glucose levels are elevated and reduces glucagon secretion. It also slows gastric emptying and can reduce appetite. These effects help improve blood glucose control.

Tell your doctor about all medicines you take before starting Semabrex.

• Insulin or sulfonylureas: Using semaglutide with these medicines can increase the risk of low blood sugar. Their doses may need adjustment.

• Oral medicines: Semaglutide can delay gastric emptying and may affect the absorption of some medicines taken by mouth.

• Warfarin or other coumarin medicines: Your doctor may recommend closer monitoring of blood clotting when semaglutide treatment is started.

• Other semaglutide-containing medicines or GLP-1 receptor agonists: Do not use them together with Semabrex unless specifically advised by your doctor.

• Store Semabrex according to the storage instructions provided with the product.

• If refrigerated, maintain the medicine at 2°C to 8°C.

• Do not freeze.

• Protect the vial from heat and light.

• Keep the medicine out of reach of children.

• Follow the product-specific instructions for handling the vial after first use.

• Semabrex is administered as a subcutaneous injection.

• The product is supplied as a multi-dose vial.

• Semaglutide injection is generally administered once weekly, as prescribed by the doctor.

• It may be injected into the abdomen, thigh or upper arm.

• Do not inject into a vein or muscle.

• Use the prescribed dose only. Do not change the dose or frequency on your own.

• Use a new disposable syringe for each injection.

• Do not reuse or share syringes.

• Follow the product-specific instructions provided by your healthcare professional for withdrawing and administering the prescribed dose.

Semabrex may cause gastrointestinal side effects, particularly when treatment is started or the dose is increased.

Serious side effects

Contact your doctor promptly if you develop:

• Severe or persistent abdominal pain, which may indicate pancreatitis

• Persistent vomiting or diarrhoea with signs of dehydration

• Symptoms of low blood sugar, particularly when using insulin or a sulfonylurea

• Sudden changes in vision

• Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, such as swelling of the face or throat or difficulty breathing

• Severe abdominal pain that may indicate gallbladder problems

• Use Semabrex exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

• Take your injection on the same day each week.

• Use a new disposable syringe for every injection.

• Do not reuse or share syringes.

• Rotate injection sites as instructed by your healthcare professional.

• Do not change the prescribed dose or injection frequency yourself.

• Drink enough fluids, particularly if you experience vomiting or diarrhoea.

• Tell your doctor if you use insulin or a sulfonylurea because your risk of low blood sugar may increase.

• Inform your doctor if you have a history of pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, diabetic eye disease or severe gastrointestinal problems.

• Tell your healthcare team that you use semaglutide before undergoing general anaesthesia or deep sedation.
