Introduction
Semanat 4mg Pen Injection contains Semaglutide as its active ingredient. It is a prescription medicine belonging to the GLP-1 receptor agonist group.
The 4 mg refers to the total Semaglutide content in the pen. This presentation is used when the prescribed dose has been increased beyond the initial lower doses.
Uses of Semanat 4mg Pen Injection
Semanat 4mg Pen Injection may be prescribed for:
Type 2 diabetes mellitus: To improve blood sugar control along with diet and exercise.
Weight management: In eligible adults with obesity or overweight and a weight-related health condition, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
How Semanat 4mg Pen Injection Works
Semaglutide acts like GLP-1 and helps control blood sugar by increasing insulin release and reducing glucagon release when blood glucose is elevated.
It also slows stomach emptying and increases fullness, which may reduce food intake.
Interaction of Semanat 4mg Pen Injection with Other Medicines
Insulin and sulfonylureas can increase the risk of hypoglycaemia.
Delayed stomach emptying may alter the absorption of some oral medicines.
Avoid combining Semanat with another Semaglutide-containing medicine unless prescribed.
Other GLP-1 receptor agonists should not generally be combined with Semanat.
Storage Conditions
Store at 2°C to 8°C before use.
Do not freeze.
Protect from light.
Keep away from the freezer compartment.
Keep out of sight and reach of children.
Follow the product-specific instructions after first use.
How to Use
Inject Semanat under the skin once weekly.
Use the abdomen, thigh or upper arm.
It can be used at any time of day, with or without food.
Follow the dose selected by your doctor.
Do not change the dose yourself.
Use a new needle for every injection.
Never share the pen or needles.
Check the solution before use and do not inject if it is not clear and colourless.
Safety Advice
Pregnancy
Semanat should not be used during pregnancy. If you are planning a pregnancy, tell your doctor because Semaglutide should generally be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.
Breast Feeding
Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Semaglutide is not recommended during breastfeeding unless your doctor decides that treatment is appropriate.
Lungs
Tell your doctor if you have a significant respiratory condition or are scheduled for surgery or a procedure requiring general anaesthesia or deep sedation.
Liver
Tell your doctor if you have liver disease before starting treatment.
Alcohol
Alcohol may affect blood sugar control and can worsen symptoms such as nausea or vomiting.
Driving
Semanat does not usually affect driving. However, dizziness or low blood sugar may affect concentration, particularly when Semaglutide is used with insulin or a sulfonylurea.
