Introduction
Semalix 4mg Injection contains Semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus and, where prescribed for the approved indication, chronic weight management.
Semalix 4mg Injection contains Semaglutide 4 mg/3 mL and is supplied as a prefilled pen designed to deliver a 1 mg dose. It should be used along with the treatment plan prescribed by your doctor.
Uses of Semalix 4mg Injection
Semalix 4mg Injection is used to:
Improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus: It is used along with diet and exercise.
Support chronic weight management: It may be prescribed for eligible adults with obesity or overweight with at least one weight-related health condition, according to the approved indication.
How Semalix 4mg Injection Works
Semalix 4mg Injection contains Semaglutide, which mimics the action of GLP-1, a hormone involved in blood sugar and appetite regulation.
It increases insulin release when blood sugar is elevated and reduces glucagon release. It also slows stomach emptying and may increase feelings of fullness. These effects help improve blood sugar control and can reduce food intake.
Interaction of Semalix 4mg Injection with Other Medicines
Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, supplements and herbal products you take.
Insulin or sulfonylureas: These may increase the risk of low blood sugar when combined with Semalix.
Oral medicines: Delayed stomach emptying may affect the absorption of some oral medicines.
Warfarin or other coumarin medicines: Your doctor may recommend closer INR monitoring after treatment begins.
Other GLP-1 receptor agonists: Do not combine Semalix with another Semaglutide-containing medicine or GLP-1 receptor agonist unless prescribed.
Storage Conditions
Store Semalix 4mg Injection in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C.
Do not freeze the medicine.
Do not use it if it has been frozen.
Protect the pen from light.
Keep it out of the reach of children.
Follow the product packaging for storage instructions after first use.
How to Use
Use Semalix 4mg Injection exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
The 4 mg/3 mL prefilled pen is designed to deliver a 1 mg dose. It is administered under the skin once a week, with or without food.
The injection may be given in the abdomen, thigh or upper arm. Rotate injection sites to reduce local irritation.
Your doctor may increase the dose gradually depending on your response and tolerance. Do not change the prescribed dose yourself.
Do not inject Semalix into a vein or muscle. Do not share the pen with another person.
Safety Advice
Pregnancy
Semaglutide should not be used during pregnancy. Tell your doctor if you are planning pregnancy. Treatment should generally be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.
Breast Feeding
Semaglutide should not be used during breastfeeding unless specifically advised by your doctor.
Lungs
Tell your doctor before surgery or a procedure involving general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Semaglutide delays stomach emptying and may increase the risk of aspiration.
Liver
Tell your doctor if you have liver disease before using Semalix. Your doctor will assess whether treatment is appropriate.
Alcohol
Discuss alcohol consumption with your doctor. Alcohol may worsen nausea and vomiting and can affect blood sugar control.
Driving
Semalix does not usually affect driving. However, low blood sugar may occur when it is used with insulin or sulfonylureas. Avoid driving if you develop symptoms of hypoglycaemia.
